    Getting Compensation from BT for broadband failure

    OK I've been without internet for 7 hours and been told after various line checks etc that there is a know fault in my area and to wait another 4 hours and every thing should be alright - Even before I'd finished talking to the nice young lady in India my broadband came back -- when I asked her about compensation she said I'd have to wait until the line was restored.

    Question Has anyone received any compensation for being without broadband - if so what did you get and how long were you off air for?

    You want compo for having no internet for 7 hours?

    When I first got my BT Broadband it went off for 4 days .They were'nt to bothered and told me the fault was at my end .I got some snooty bitch telling to to un-install my USB drivers for the modem . In the end it was there fault and there was no compensation .Total aggogant company BT is , but I'm still with them .

    i havent been without broadband YET!! but i tell you bt are crud my net goes fast when it wants to or mega slow or the hub wont respond etc, i did have oneday where not a single thing would connect to the hub or the net for around 30mins, had to reboot everything bloody pain,


    ( we offer the best service thats why we are so expensive) thats what a guy said to me when i i complaing about the internet just show they are not the best isp

    If you do get comp they will only give it to you for 7 hours worth, which will be pennies, dont waste your time!

    'Be' gave us compensation for being without for about 2 days - wasn't worth it in the end as on a £15/m package the compensation was just under a pound! Doubt they will do much about 7 hours tbh.

    I phoned up to say I wanted to cancel even though I had 6 months left to go - I said send me the bill for the last 6 months I'm off to Sky for free broadband - even though Sky isn't available in my area for free so had no intention of really cancelling...

    I was put through to cancelation dept and was given 6 months free broadband if I extended the contract from 6 months to 12...

    May be worth you threatening to cancel because of your loss in service... they will want to retain you.

    Virgin cable broadband has been up and down like a hoar's drawers in my area today. The problem is that if you have a residential service (not business) then there are no service guarantees at all. It's all in the small print of your contract. They may do something as a goodwill gesture, but I doubt it would be worth your while to persue.

    Shouldnt have been done but well done.
    Also BT have a checker and can see whos BB is available in certain areas, so be careful :thumbsup:

    I think BB has to be down for a min of 24hrs before compo can kick in.

    You'll not get anything from BT, I had similar problem and when I asked for compo they just laughed at me.

    That'll explain why your still under 24k posts, and not coming up to 25k if you been netless for 7 hours

    720 hours in a month, so, 1% downtime. Assuming you're on their "fast and reliable" contract, you should be due a cheque for 15p.
