That would depend on what it is you want with the main difference being one is an endurance bike with a more relaxed geometry to do longer distances comfortably vs a more aggressive geometry to let you go faster at the cost of comfort.

I am after comfort, medium to long distance I.e. 30 to 50 miles and uphill ease mainly, don't need super speeds that much.. Just to be able to do 15 to 18 mph average speed in a 30 to 40 mile ride..

Was thinking of using cycle to work scheme im finding it hard to find a 'good' road bike second hand for my size, i am 5'6 / 165.5cm.
cycle to work is a good shout - I'm guessing you would be looking for a 52cm or so, I'd definitely recommend visiting a bike store and getting a feel for different brands frames, for instance I own both 54cm and 58cm bikes.
