give more than 30 days notice to Vodafone?

You guys are always so helpful! So thought I'd ask..
My contract end date is the 1st Feb. I want to leave Vodafone, so 30 days notice is the 2nd Jan. As I was quiet last night i thought I'd call them and give them a few days extra notice of my intention to cancel. They said no, and wanted to charge me £122 for early exit fees! So I have to call back on the 2nd Jan. Can I not give them a couple days extra notice? Surely it's a MINIMUM of 30 days. (The 2nd will be a busy day and thought I'd help myself by getting it out the way!)

Minimum 30 days notice. Edit: possibly not. The two t&c for pay monthly agreements since 2014-01-24 have actual t&c wording = "Either you or we may end this agreement by giving the other 30 days' notice in writing. Your notice must include your mobile number and your signature or appropriate security details." i.e. no mention of "minimum" 30 days. Also can't immediately see any termiantion-specific address where "notice in writing" should be sent.

I'm sure u b able to cancel on the 31st December and not before. ..but charging you 122 to cancel is making me oO Curious

I cancelled my Vodafone contracts with three months to go as the service was so bad, again they said no but I said as I and they both record the conversations you now have official notice of termination, needless to say they backtracked and I left in Feb

Minimum 30 days notice. You can notify intention to terminate as early as … Minimum 30 days notice. You can notify intention to terminate as early as the day you initiate the agreement. Phone jockey likely incorrectly interpreted your request as an immediate termination. Check your agreement for the required termination notification method (via telephone to a specific number, in writing to a specific address, etc).

Yes, see this was my understanding! Minimum 30 days, the guy just kept saying immediate termination was £122...no, just giving you notice! Might get back on to them today and try again. Herein lies one of the many reasons I would like to leave!

I'm not even sure how they got that amount to be honest. Didn't question it because I knew I wasn't paying it!

Good point, I was on live chat too so they have notice of my intention already. But still.. Vodafone are ridiculous! They've already slashed my monthly bill by 65% (while still in contract) because of how much they've screwed up with me!

Sounds like a muppet answered the phone.

Given past experience I'd be inclined to say that they exclusively have muppets answering the phones!

Try this: prepare your notice of termination letter dated 30 days prior to contract end, and send it to Vodafone today with a covering letter stating: find enclosed my 30 days notice of termination instruction. Simples.
Vodafone not stating where to send that written instruction is just a minor issue...!
