Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements - advice please

Found 16th Jul 2010
I often have painful joints especially in the mornings and a friend has advised me to try glucosamine or chondroitin supplements. But the more I look at them the more confused I get. Some are just glucosamine or chondroitin and some are glucosamine and chondroitin and some have sulphate after one or other of the words...Does anyone understand these things and can help me decide what is right for me. Also does anyone know a good, cheap, trustworthy supplier - they seem rather expensive.
Thanks, will rep replies is I can work out how to do it in the new version!

Basic glucosamine capsules will be ok. As for price, get them in Home Bargain.

I don't know the differance exactly they are all for joints - Just that having them combined is stronger. However getting the combined ones cheap is near impossible! Glucosamine is sold in body care very cheaply, think it was around £3.99, but been a while since I bought them. HTH

As above Home & Bargains,Quality Save B&M etc sell them cheaply

I think it's 2.99 for 90.

BTW REP doesn't exist anymore, you can only "like" a comment over there >>>>>>>

Thanks to you both for your replies - I still can't decide what to get. The prices seem to vary so much but I am worried the cheap ones may be fake.

Glucosamine with Chondroitin is BOGOF free here:

So works out at £7.95 for 180, or £13.49 for 360.

I've ordered quite a few times from this company before, and have never had a problem.

/\ you need the .aspx on the end of the URL above, for some reason it's not adding it as part of the link (this site gets worse and worse by the day lol)

Do you take Cod liver oil capsules as well, they are good for joints.

Have you made your GP aware of your condition. It may be worthwhile mentioning it. Whether or not they are able to provide a fix. It helps them to build a fuller picture of your general health.

Hi, thanks to your all, have added those "like this comment" things to you all. I did mention to my GP who just muttered about getting older....THANKS! I hadn't thought of cod liver oil, I bet they are cheaper, do you think should I take them as well or instead?

BIG THANKS to midlandscomics, I will order from these people, it always good to know someone has used them before. Great price - I don't suppose you have a free P&P code do you??

I pretty sure that Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements are no better than placebo so are pretty worthless to take thus you are better to not to waste your money in buying either.

My sis buys the Glucosamine for her dog lol

You can take the CLO as well as the Glucosamine.

Cod liver oil, evening primrose could do the trick.
You best stock up for when it starts getting cold, I find the winter is more severe on my joints.

I agree with this ...
.....and with Wooly re visiting your GP.

Painful joints in the morning needs a proper professional opinion - -off to the doctor's you go.
