Going rate for a DJ

Found 5th Nov 2009
Anyone know what the going rate is for a dj to play a party? the location will be London and between 7pm till midnight.

A friend has asked me to dj, but i haven't the speakers or lights to cater so was going to ask a friend of a friend.

I was hoping to pay him around the £100

I mobile DJ on a part time basis but unfortunately, I don't cover as far as the London area. ( I live in Bournemouth, Dorset.)

The price you pay depends purley on what you want. If your party is on a Friday/Saturday then expect to pay more due to demand. Also, if your party is between now & xmas/new year, be quick to find a DJ as due to office parties/xmas parties etc, things are getting a bit busy.

To give you an idea, I'm fully booked for every weekend between now and the end of March 2010 and have been for last few months. That's not including my regular residencies.

In terms of fees, you're looking at 5 hours. Like I said, weekend rates are more costly and it depends what you want. If you just want a regular party DJ who will play a mix of various music, have disco lights etc then expect anything from £150 upwards for a weekend, possibly less for sun-thursday.

If you want specialist - eg RnB, Dance, or even karaoke then you will pay a fair bit more.

A word of advice - what yu pay for is generally what you get so try and get recommendations, references etc if possible. Also, get a receipt with contact details for any deposit.

Here's a good website with a list of reputable DJ's in your area - just use the postcode search facility.

If I can help anymore, let me know.

Good luck.
