Going to Spain - 1st of June to 10th of June

    Hi all,

This will be my first time travelling in Europe and decided to start off with Spain. I'm more inclined towards visiting Barcelona but if I do have time (and ££), I'll probably visit other cities as well.

Any idea where to start? Is it too late to plan for a trip now? I might go down to the bookshops after the bank holiday to look for books, so any recommendation what books to get?

I'm completely clueless. Hope some of you who have been to Spain (esp Barcelona) can provide some help here. Thanks!

P/s: Oh ya, I'll be travelling from Bristol so probably Easyjet to Barcelona is the cheapest option (I think).

When we go to spain the only place we'll go is the costa blanca [benidorm] nearest airport : alicante

really cheap drink and is a really fun holiday

If you could go for a week on the 31st May with another person from Bristol, it would only cost £400 for the both of you self catering...

Thanks for the suggestion. What do you do there? Might go there if I have time after visiting Barcelona.

Yeah, I'm actually planning to go with another friend from Bristol. How did you come up with that amount for accommodation?

Also, if anyone has any suggestion of the must-see places in Barcelona, do let me know too. Would greatly appreciate that.

Unfortunately it wouldn't be Barcelona, It would be Salou.

put in: 31st May, 7 days, from "any south west" airport, spain, 2 peeople

It should throw up the Calypso Hotel in salou. If you book this, it will be £478 for both of you, from bristol, half board

Am going to salou, and barcelona is only a stone throw away. Available to see is the football stadium, zoo, all sorts whatever takes ya fancy really.

I'm so good at finding hotels and flights and holidays :-D :whistling:

Barcelona is a fantastic city, was there 2 weeks ago.

The tour at the Nou Camp is really good, 11 euros per adult, it isn't a guided tour you wander round at your own pace. The route around the stadium is well sign posted with plenty of information points. We also went to a game at the Nou Camp.

The tourist hop on & off buses are also really good, 22 euros for a one day ticket for an adult. Plenty of information on the route and 3 different routes, your ticket covers all 3.

Las Ramblas is the most expensive street in Spain, so don't be tempted to stop for food or drink, the prices are outrageous! Just past half way down Las Ramblas, just off it your will find the Placa Reial, really nice little square with quite a few bars and restaurants at a much more reasonable price than on Las Ramblas.

The area down at the marina and the beaches are also nice.

Shopping in Barcelona is great. The easiest way to get around the city is the metro, really easy to use. A 1 way ticket is 1.25 euro per adult.

We ate 1 night in a great tapas bar, really reasonable Bar ba r Ba just down from Passeig de Gracia metro station, fantastic tapas.

Sagrada Familla is definitely worth a visit, an amazing building that still isn't finished! They estimate it will be finished in 2020 only about 200 years after it was started!

Have a fab time, I will definitely be going back at some point.

I'd agree with that. I went thinking it was going to be crap... was absolutely fantastic!!

They must have employed the same builders that I did!:giggle:

Parc Guell is free and quite good to roam around for a while.

Thanks, but my friend calculated our estimated expenses and it's less than £300 for 9 days in Spain, including Easyjet flights, 3-day Spain railpass and hostel accommodation. Since I could save much more by doing everything separately, I decided to go for that. Thanks anyway!
