Good deal on a new desktop pc?

Wondering if anyone can help me?

My home pc is getting on a bit (4 years old now) after taking a bit of a hammering over the last few years, and is now giving me constant BSoD no matter what i do to try and fix it, so I'm looking to get a new one (can't be bothered replacing bits to try and find out what's wrong with it).

I'm looking for the following rough spec:

At least 2gb processor, 1gb Ram, DVD/CD reader/writer, 19" widescreen fp monitor, lots of usb ports, decent enough graphics card etc etc. I mostly use the pc for surfing, downloading stuff, watching dvd's and playing the odd game. I'm not too bothered about whether it has vista or not, and i don't really want any bundled software.

My problem is that it's so long since i bought the last one that i have no idea how much i should be spending. Can someone please give me a rough guide on the sort of price i will be looking at (my budget is either going to have to be less than £400, or i will have to wait a while!!) and perhaps point me to some good, trustworthy places that might do a good price?

I'll be forever grateful!!!

I think it's worth having a look at this thread ]http//ww…141

Big Pockets do various base units at good prices for the spec you get.The one I like is this ]click Dual core gaming pc with 2gb ram,AMD4600 dual core processor,7600gt graphics(not at all shabby!) 6xusb ports and 3 year warranty. At £399 it is at the top of your budget,so maybe you could hold off on the monitor for a bit. There is no operating system installed so you would have to sort this yourself, but as you don't want the usual software put on ready built units, maybe that is ok.

Have a read of the thread because the company in question have answered a few queries that others have posed.Nice components are used like Asrock mobo's,seagate or western digital harddrives and decent 500w psu.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the pointers, rep added!

hotukdeals.com/for…ell

this is excellent value with a 22 inch widescreen...and 5% quidco cashback at present

that deal is no longer available with the 22 inch monitor. I checked it out this morning.

hopefully a new deal will come up shortly. Remember Vista really needs 2Gig RAM to run nicely.

Oh well...but a 20 incher aint that bad!
