    Google Cardboard VR (Oculus Thrift)

Google cardboard - works with Android phones, £12.08 without nfc tags, although there are various options.

For those that dont know what this is there is a loads of videos just google it. Gives a VR experience using your android smartphone, there is also a google+ group with more info.

I tried getting the lenses but had problems so just got the kit instead.

    lol

Where is this? Also, is it possible to mirror your PC screen on your phone? In essence allowing you to use the Google cardboard in place of the rift?

I do know the quality is nothing compared to the rift, but seeing as the wait time for DK2 is September, and no sign of CV1 I'm curious if this could be a disposable version of DK1 perhaps?

Reposting as it seems to have lost all the detail.

ok well some software called Kainy can get your game to display on your phone. I just tried Assetto corsa and although it displays, the lag sending the image over wifi is too slow. Not really suprised but was worth a look.

Hi there, I've posted a deal about the Google Cardboard here: hotukdeals.com/dea…939

If you guys have received yours it would be great to hear your reviews on it over on that thread

The Rift is basically a headset + a screen + lenses + sensors to sense tilt and direction, and then an external computer to provide the graphical power.

A modern smartphone has a screen and all the sensors, and a fair amount of graphical power all in one unit, so all you really need is the lenses and a headset.

I agree on first impression it sounds a bit silly, but if you think about it it's a perfectly viable solution.
