Googlemail NO LONGER Invite Only!

Found 8th Feb 2007
I'm sure nearly every regular has a Googlemail/Gmail account or has been offered many times at least. They are just so common now!

Well, for those who don't---

mail.google.com/mai…nup

Seems like it's gone out of Invite Mode only!!

mail.google.com/mai…nup

That only took them...what 3 years? I wonder when they will take the "beta" tag down.

Little trick I discovered when signing up. For anyone who would prefer a @gmail.com email address rather than @googlemail.co.uk you can use a web proxy based in the US to trick Google into thinking you are a US visitor.

Visit grab.cc and enter mail.google.com/mai…nup in the form and submit, this will now take you to gmail sign up page but via a US proxy. I did this a few months ago but should still work.

Took their time!!

didnt work :-(

On grabb.cc page try unchecking "Remove client-side scripting" box.
If it asks for your location make sure you select US.

cant somebody with gmail just pass on an invite for gmail.com address instead?

Nope, Google lost the rights to the name gmail in the UK some time ago. Upon signup it will detect you are from UK and only offer you the longer more ugly domain.

I have both Gmail and Googlemail email addresses.

Tried this, get through to gmail sign up page.

However, can't keep United States as my location as they will not send the invite code to my UK mobile. Any ideas how to get around this?

'gamail' is better then 'googlemail', quicker to type lol.

It does work but mail sent to [email protected] will still get to you even if you have a googlemail.com address. The only difference is what the top of the screen says your address is.

Anyone wants an invite from my gmail.com account PM me. Might work that way, might not.
