    Gordon Brown resigns!

he just quit as leader of labour-they are also now negotiating with the lib dems for a lab/lib coalition but brown would NOT be prime minister.

thats not what he meant....he is not going yet...he would be prime minister until the labour party conference on oct/nov if they all agreed.....its all back up in the air again..according to sky news anyway

Thats closer to what I heard

    OO interesting.

    there is still hope....

he still wants to keep his grubby hands on power until the autumn though. he's only doing it to try and appease the lib dems and keep his failed govt in power by whatever way he can. it's verging on shameful.

    nope, not until september...

do the lib dems REALLY wanna align themselves with a man who hasnt been voted in this time and wasnt voted in last time either?

but he HAS resigned as leader of the party, its a labour constitutional thing that he has to stay til the conference. The more interesting thing anyway is that this is clearly an indication that the lib dems must be struggling to sell an alliance with the tories to their members.

    Gutted :-(

A lib/lab collaliton will be a prelude to another election with months. They wouldn't have a majority even together and would still be depending on the independents to be able to push through votes and not forgetting rebels.

    grubby hands?

as opposed to someone taking over with clean hands?

    verging on nonsense

If a lib lab rainbow coalition occurs I wonder how many pieces the tories will cut Cameron into

I've literally no idea what point your trying to make apart from a smartish play on my last post but that's it. I'm pretty sure it made more sense in your head.

The Labour party are knackered and this stringing out of the whole thing is potentially bad for the economy.

Hopefully this just means Clegg gets more from Cameron and we can have a nice coalition between those two.

no just wondering why you are using the term "grubby" i assume its a smartish play on words that makes sense in your head:roll:

aah right your trying to deflect from browns "grubby" attempts to stay in power after his party lost around 100 mps and are no longer the largest party in parliament by saying all politicians are "grubby". Got you now:thumbsup:

He's done this purely to get the Lib Dems on board..

    However..

If a lib/lab pack does happen... You'll see massive public uproar... With conservatives have 36.1% of the vote... Then to have a party in power who got 29% of the vote..

As someone has already said - you'll see an election very soon aftwards

I don't understand what is being strung out?? It's hardly like there is a quick easy solution here. Let them take their time, let them discuss all possibilities.

Brown has had no choice but to go. All outcomes led to his removal as leader of the party at some point.

How long do you think it will be before BBCs Nick Robinson of Young Conservatives fame explodes like the Icelanic volcano :w00t:

There wont be an uproar, since over 50% of the voters have a say in Parliament via the party they elected.

Luckily Cameron will have his hands full in October, so all is not lost for him. See, it might all turn out well after all.

Ants97, I can see you dont like labour (presumabley much to do with being the biggest obstacle in Scotland to the SNP, but do you honestly think Salmond has any scrupples? But you'll have a PM who was either the leader of the third placed party, or one who wasn't part of the leaders' debates.

I'm not a Tory voter but I think that Cameron is the only viable leadership candidate we have and I think we need the Lib Dems in coalition to control their natural tendencies.

For their own sake the Labour party need to spend some time out of power to regroup.

excellent move by Brown sacrifice his position to keep the tories out - well done Gordie:thumbsup:

They should ask Cameron to lead the Lab/Lib coalition in the name of fairness.

BS..... They might need to elect a new leader, but claiming they need to regroup and the inexperienced Tories is a good option, isn't for me I'm afraid.

Could Nick Clegg be made the PM over this if a lib/lab coaltition is granted?

lol at them arguing live on SKy news!!

A few cups of Earl Grey tea will have been spilt after that fly in the ointment.....

They've been in power for 13 years - fatigue is an inevitability. All the people who came in at the '97 election who had promise have been and gone. They need to spend some time in opposition and let the next generation come through - it's what happens in politics.
