At least I think it isnt wireless.

It is a 2006 Xbox 360. Is there something I can buy cheap to connect it to xbox live through my wireless router?

The easiest way is to get a 2nd hand 360 wireless adaptor.
Probably £20 or so.

its a 20gb model.

Might go with wired, as I have a second homehub I can use upstairs.

Anyone seen any good deals for the xbox 360 wireless thingys though?

i paid £30 for mine 2nd hand off the bay

I'd go with wired for now as you'll need the cash to get a new xbox when that 2006 model inevitably rrod's.

For now...

You done a fan mod?, I fixed one and it's still going strong a year on with an extra fan.

JUst cleaned it with cotton buds, wipes and windolene, then gave it the once over with the heatgun. Only took an hour.

As long as its well ventilated, and flat not standing) it should last. If not, ill fix it again.

Shaun, how did you set up your fan mod?

I did this fan mod, Simple but works.

Interesting read. May disassemble a PSU for the fan, and try my own thing.

Be careful when drilling holes for ventilation, I nearly drilled through my knee after the drill bit snapped lol. 40mm fan is more than adequate for the job.

I used sellotape rather than solder to keep wires in place.

Also, it has an HD component cable, with 6 phono plugs, take it I need to buy something else to change this to HD output?

dcx_badass

Component can do 1080. The early 360 didn't have HDMI did it?

Yep, the limitation to 720 is just a ridiculous "anti-piracy" attempt on Blu-ray (and HDDVD). Some people misread it as a technical restriction. Unprotected content can go over 1080p no problem.

console red ringed this morning, fixed it by tapping all the components gently.

Dry solder probably.

Will need to find out where the problem is next time it has a rrod, then look at soldering the point for a long term fix.

Providing your hdtv can do 1080p over component as well.
