    WHooooooooo!

    - Do i get paid when i have a break?
    - What tax should i be paying?
    - What should i expect to be doing on my first day?

Any advice or guidance you would like to give?

Yes holiday pay is likely. No tax if you're working part time (less than 3 days i think)

    1) you won't get paid for any breaks you have..unless it's a sneaky fag break
    2) as your a student you shouldn't be paying any tax, only national insurance contributions
    3) your 1st day will more than likely be a company induction, tour of the workplace, job description and all that boring stuff.

well done and enjoy the world of work

Congratulations on the job, paid for breaks depends on your contract, tax … Congratulations on the job, paid for breaks depends on your contract, tax you don't pay any on the first £~6500 you earn. Although some take it from the beginning and it even balances out or you claim in back. Students do pay tax the same as everyone else so ignore the fool above me.On another note, your username and age makes me want to facepalm.

She took over her mams account if memory serves. It been commented on before.

Its unfortunate that you feel the need to write such grumpy patronising comments basically all the time. Im sure you are a reasonably nice person irl.

    - Do i get paid when i have a break?
your entitled to have breaks, so should be paid (atleast i am). If your only working mornings/afternoons, then you probably wouldnt have breaks, but for a whole day you should.

    - What tax should i be paying?
probably nothing. depends how much you work and earn.

    - What should i expect to be doing on my first day?
    training & usual work.

DIY as in B&Q, Homebase, Focus/Wickes or independent
    - Do i get paid when i have a break? you will not be paid for lunch breaks but you will for tea breaks
    - What tax should i be paying? if its a summer job then no tax, if not depends on how many hours and your pay rate
    - What should i expect to be doing on my first day? if one of the big ones then some videos and load of other carp before they let you on shop floor.
but as for first job in a DIY store good for you cos then any other jobs that you go on to do will seem like a promotion.

i think you can earn about £ 560 per month before paying tax - most breaks are unpaid unless your contract states differently - first day will be induction or else you will be placed with someone experienced to 'shadow' to learn

If its a diy store then probably the break isnt paid for but you are entitled to it
Tax you will probably be on a low tax rate cant say exactly as i dont knwo your pay
First day will probably be training

But congrats my first job was working in woolworths on £5.85 an hour :-D that was going on 5 years ago
