    GPS for iPad

I'm off on holiday next Saturday and wanted to get a GPS app for my iPad. I've looked on the app store and the quantity is mind boggling.
It needs to have western European maps anf good value for money. If anyone has any reccomendations or advice that would be great.

Do you require a full GPS application? If so, is it for use in the car or on foot?

Co-Pilot Live HD Europe is very good but costs £26. It contains maps for all of Western Europe.

I've heard that Navmii is excellent but you buy country maps individually for £4 each.

What about Navfree? Give it a try before you go and then decide. Not too sure if the maps are available for all the countries that you require.

TomTom is only available for the iPhone (poor resolution on the iPad) and is as expensive as a TomTom unit for the car!!

    Mattress,
Thanks for the pointers. As you suggested, I had a look at Navfree. Got the UK maps free and it looks really good. Buying the individual maps adds up to quite a bit and I'm not sure what happens if there is a "hole" in the map i.e. how it routes around a missing map. Co-Pilot sounds like a bargain at £26. Don't think I'll beat that.
I would like to use it mainly for driving. Like the idea of a large map to follow. Now all I need is a car mount for the iPad.

The iPad doesn't have GPS does it?

Yea, it does. It has Google maps but you need an internet connection as it downloads the maps as you need them. Internet abroad = very expensive. That's why I wanted an app that stored the maps in the iPad.

The 3G version has a sat nav chip that does not use the 3G connection, therefore costing nowt - if using a dedicated application anyway.
