non Techy person here... My son has asked for this for his 15th birthday next month.

GIGABYTE GEFORCE GTX 1660 OC 6144MB GDDR5 PCI-EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD

Its coming up at £223.

Is that good? Is there anything as good but cheaper?

Any advice would be gratefully received

As good but cheaper would be something like the 5500XT or RX 580 from AMD.

For it's price point its the best Nvidia card and fine for 1080p

You should be getting a 1660 Super for £220, the jump in performance is substantial. Here's the model he wants in the Super variant for the same price:

Get the super
If you can get the super for the same price go for it, as for amd you get more driver issues. Plus your son has chosen before for a reason so would forget amd...
