Hey guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my poor old Radeon HD 5770. Sadly, it's been a good servant but it needs replacing.

Here is my current Spec (via Speccy):

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1

Intel Core i5 760 @ 2.80GHz - Lynnfield 45nm Technology

12.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 664MHz (9-9-9-24)

FOXCONN H55M-S (CPU 1)

1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series (XFX Pine Group)

750W PSU

I want to try out games like Doom (2016), Rise of the Tomb Raider, Battlefield 1 & GTA V

With some many good deals on the market I am struggling to get my head round on which one to buy! I'm looking to spend no more than £250.

Any chance of a little advice please guys?

Which i5 do you have exactly and whats your budget. Also what spec is your power supply

As above, and what games do you/will be playing.

To get a perceivable improvement in gaming performance, you need to spend some money, you are looking at an AMD RX470 OC minimum for AMD, I am sure a NV fan will be along to tell you which of theirs is better.

Unless the leccy bill is worrying you, or it is really lagging on games, the 5770 is a decent card; but if you are getting rid of it, could I have it for my daughters PC? She currently has an old 6670, but I think the onboard RAM is going iffy, as I get screen corruptions at high rez.

What's the budget? The and rx480 and the nvidia gtx 1060 are the two mid range decent price performance cards in my opinion.£200-£250

Gtx1080 is the best but you are looking at 600 plus, the 1070is very good and probably the min for a decent future proof vr experience. On the budget the 1050ti has some good deals.

Also what monitor do you have?

depends what your after and what sort of price range. I've just ordered a whole load of new components to build a new gaming PC and I settled on the XFX radeon rx480 and that was £220 and looking at reviews will run any game

An RX470 properly OC'ed nearly matches the 480 for a lot less money, which is why I suggested it as a minimum spec (5% less performance?)

I've just found this on amazon: amazon.co.uk/XFX…D-1

XFX Radeon RX 480 Core Edition 8GB GDDR5 Graphics Card - Black edition @ £234.99. Using Flubit I can get it for £219.97

from the spec listed I wouldn't recommend getting anything more powerful than a RX 470 or a GTX 1050 TI for the kind of games your wanting to play either of those will be fine for 1080p at max settings. I would then keep the extra money and save it up to put towards a new cpu and motherboard in the future as those will be your bottleneck in games before a RX 470 or GTX 1050TI would.

OK - So I'm looking at either of these options then:
EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti - amazon.co.uk/EVG…+Ti
Zotac GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4 GB OC - amazon.co.uk/Zot…+Ti

XFX RX-470P4LDB6 Radeon RX 470 - amazon.co.uk/XFX…470
Sapphire AMD RX470 Nitro+ 8 GB GDDR5 - amazon.co.uk/Sap…470

Which one would you guys choose? - cheers for your help emodan

Check out Amazon Warehouse deals. I picked up a GTX 970 OC for ~£160 and then did the obligatory 'it wasn't in the greatest condition' chat with customer service for an extra 20% off.

Currently it is a Samsung SMBX2250 (running at 1920x1080@60Hz)

OK - so using Flubit I can pick up a Zotac GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OC for £138.29

Seems like a good choice especially at that price. The advantage of nvidia is less driver overhead so your processor will handle less work vs amd. Not a massive difference but every little helps.

With the latest nvidia cards tho you may have to update your mobo bios as your motherboard is pretty old and I just had that issue with a 1070 and an i5 2500k (worked fine for about a month , then wouldn't work at all)

It really depends on your budget and what you would like the card to do.

Here is a quick guide

Resolution = 1080p - If you are on tight budget get 2nd hand GTX 970, if you want latest tech and are on budget get RX 480 (4GB version), if you want best card in this range get GTX 1060 (6GB version)

Resolution = 1440p - Get either GTX 1070 if you want best card in this range or GTX 980 Ti (2nd hand) if you want to save a few bucks.

Resolution = 4K - Get the GTX 1080 or wait for GTX 1080 Ti

I wouldn't recommend anything less than a GTX 970 unless you are on a right budget or playing below 1080p resolution.
