Need to upgrade a 3-4 yr old Dell Vostro 200 PC running XP so it can handle HD video editing without continually freezing and crashing. It currently has 2Gb RAM and everything else is original with the exception of about 2Tb HDDs (internal and external). Was about to add another 2Gb RAM and change the graphics card but have no idea what to choose within a £75 budget. Can anyone advise please.

So will just upping the RAM make a difference? I was told that gaming graphics cards would make a difference (but to be honest the guy that was advising me seemed the type who'd struggle to locate his ar*e and elbow)

Siwrath, sure it wasn't a 5650 1gb? Didn't think they did low range 2gb cards lol

It's the pc my son uses for editing his BMX videos and he uses Adobe Premier Pro CS4. He has no trouble using the software when the pc co-operates but he cannot afford any major expenditure just now like buying a new pc, so he's looking at the cheapest way to use what he's got.

XP SP3, Dell Vostro 200 Intel(R) Core2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz 2.00Gb RAM. What else can I tell you and where can I find any info you need?

I saw 2 x 1Gb Crucial for about £25 and I was thinking around the £50-£60 for the graphics. We have (c):=295Gb (e):=232Gb (f):= 232Gb and a 1Tb external drive.

2 RAM slots free and 2x1Gb's in at the moment. c drive is 320Gb and the second drive is 500Gb partitioned as 2x250Gb

sure 120% im not knocking it got 32fps on gta 4 at 1080p my 42"

I would spend spend the money on a processor upgrade and a basic graphics card if using integrated graphics. PP cs4 has limited gpu acceleration support. An E5800 will give you about 50% more cpu performance and I would go with a low end Nvidia graphics probably a GT210.

Not bad for a low range card, bet gta4 aint even close to being maxed out though
