    Graphics tablet, which one?

Finally decided to get one of these and it looks like it's going to be a wacom, I've been looking at the bamboo or instous4.

Anybody got one of these? Which one would you recommend for just basic drawing, working with Photoshop etc?

    Good or bad points?

No... but hopefully someone has! Will be useful for my littleun to use for his school artwork and personal doodles! (And xmas is looming!)

Yeah I have one. A bamboo pen and touch.

It cost in the range of £70 its really good but I don't use it as much as I thought I would (not selling it mind)

    I have a Wacom Bamboo.

They're great, good build quality, stylish and do the job well. Got it for a bargain though (£40) Can use instead of a mouse too which I find quite helpful

Intuos is probably more advanced than what you'll need.

Yeah I'm swaying towards the bamboo but don't want to buy that then wish I'd have gone for the intous4

There seems to be loads of different versions - and knowing how advertisng works by saying "it can do xyz" when in reality its pant! Seems everyone recommends the touch and pen (The pen is obvious - whats the touch for!!!!) And looking over old threads........ This seems a good price - but probably pants if you need to be touched!

I've got the Bamboo, find it good for working with Photoshop, but don't use it as often as I thought I would, in fact I must re connect it and use it more

So what exactly can you do with it?

My initial thoughts is that it would be good for my littlun to do line drawings that he can see on screen. However, i expect it can do much more besides - and I still cant work out the "touch" bit"

Just replaces the mouse tbh, I got it because I am left handed, but use a mouse with my right hand, meaning when I do 'delicate' jobs in Photoshop it's awful, so i got this so I could use my left hand.

How old is your little one?

The artistic one is 10.... the autistic one is 12!

Would be good for something like using Paint with it then and just having a 'blank canvas' which they could then draw on, and shapes etc. Of course pens and paper would be just as good!

Does the one with Autism struggle with using a mouse, I know some of my students do, and some don't, might be an alternative if he would prefer it.

Tbh they're probably verging on too old to just use it for doodling, although of course you could teach them Photoshop!

lol the autistic one is superb with the keyboard and mouse. Took to it like a duck to water!

And to be fair, your comment re photoshop is what i wanted to hear. So if not doodleing - how do the help in that?

For example when I use layer masks I can zoom in and use the tablet to 'cut in' around an object, using the tablet (for me) makes it smoother and easier than using a mouse. Pretty much that's all I use it for, when doing more 'delicate' things. Also, using the mouse in my right hand at the same time saves time as I don't know all of the shortcuts

A mouse is perfectly usable though, pehaps use the money for CS3 for dummies for them

    I've had a few, 3 x bamboo and a bamboo: one

I tend to loose the pens!

So guys, are you all happy with the bamboo or is it worth spending the extra on wacom intuos4?

With Christmas coming up might aswell tell the mrs what I want rather then her getting me clothes - again!
