I didn't know pet shops sold bees?

You didn't mention the parrot with the broken leg that had to be put down that they also sold, you have to draw a line somewhere and they broke the law, you can't sell pets to children, it's not responsible and by the sounds of it the inspectors had a reason to be there in the first place, no smoke without fire.

+1 It's just papers being sensationalist - she did more than just sell a pet to an underage person. The papers highlight the item that will bring in the most readers and play down other things. Same as the back pages screaming about Rooney possibly missing the World Cup when all he did was twist his ankle - Get a grip people! She was done mostly for animal cruelty I bet.

How many fish are killed on a day to day basis in an inhumane manner?
Must be something missing from this story, sounds like the council didn't like her very much!

Places selling alcohol or cigarettes to kids probably don't even get hit that hard.

    Rubbish.

End of. Justice system at its most hilarious.

I'm surprised they didn't make her do hard time - She's only 70, could have sentanced her to 10 years, just for the craic.

she did break the law, correct and there were other circumstances, however :-

    a) is using a minor to carry out lies and entrapments for the authorities not only corrupting but unethical.

b)if you give away gold fish to minors, its not breaking the law as there is no sale involved, thats blows the responsobility issue out of the window, its financial interest by the law.

c)How is it proportionate to curfew and tag this offender, what purpose does this punishment serve, she is still working in the pet shop? Financial punishment would suffice without concern that this 66 year old may abscond!

Sorry, skimmed it. 66? Pfft, should be locked up and have the key thrown away.

the fish thing is just stupid but she had an animal in her care that needed to see a vet but she didnt get it looked out, she deserves what she got.

"The pair pleaded guilty at Trafford magistrates court to selling the fish to a person under 16 and for causing unnecessary suffering to a cockatiel by failing to provide appropriate care and treatment after council officers noticed a cockatiel bird in the shop in need of veterinary care with a broken leg. It was later put down."

    Well spotted.

Cockatiel had a broken leg and other problems. I suspect this was not the first visit, I gather they had been warned several times about the conditions pets were kept in. But sometimes you got to go for the law where there is more evidence than others where there is less evidence. But persistent cruelty would just not make the same headline would it.

Setting people up is controversial but it is a way of getting the message across, far less alcohol is sold to kids because many shop owners were prosecuted (still too much still sold though). Many people think these laws don't apply to them. It is no different to police setting up sting card for people to break into....do they just let them go when they have the evidence?

Wonder how much the Rod Stewart tickets are going for :whistling:
