Hi All. Thought to share my experience with Groupon and maybe other people want to chip in with their experience. In December 2021 there was a deal on HDUK to buy £50 worth of adidas gift vouchers for £35 through Groupon. As I buy quite a lot from adidas I thought it makes absolutly sense so I went for it. Transaction went ok and gift card codes were delivered so happy to that point. Just a day later I tried to make a purchase on the adidas website and when inputed the gift card codes i found that both had £0 balance. I have contacted Groupon immediately and been told they will look into it. I have contacted adidas as well and they said that the gift cards have been used already and it's up to Groupon to reinburse me as Groupon sold me the gift cards and not adidas. Since then i have regulary contacted Groupon which all the time says they will sort it in 24-48 hours and get in touch with me but never do. In past week communications Groupon says repeteadly that the gift cards were used and should contact adidas. Basically they refuse to refund and ask me to sort it with adidas ( which I already tried).
Has anyone had similar experience or I'm a one off? if this happens frequently then maybe HDUK mods should restrict Groupon posts.

sorted byGroupon would like to extend our apologies for any issues that occur, if you'd like to DM this account the email address associated with the Groupon account we can issue you a refund and look into the reason for the code not working.
Thanks you
I have tried with the credit card company but after submitting the information that they asked for, they rejected it as Groupon claim I had spent it, it was £35 I'm not wasting anymore time on it, plus Groupon don't reply they just fob you off with a generic message.
Yes I have but they won't bother or just send a generic message back like last time
I feel your pain too (edited)
True enough! However, perhaps HUKD could consider implementing a post purchase review "star system" for retailers who offer deals found on here, as well as their current pre-purchase specific hot-deal rating?
This would allow HUKD users who went for the deal, to rate it afterwards, having purchased and provide a low rating, if they didn't receive the deal as advertised or had issues, or indeed a high rating if they did receive as expected of course.
It would be invaluable for future deals from a particular retailer. It would highlight the retailers who regularly offer deals and don't deliver, as well as those who do deliver as expected and as you say only single Customers have issues. Useful for all, when considering future deals from a specific retailer, no matter how good the deal looks beforehand!
At present you just have to hope the good deal is honoured, you have no idea of the retailers deal history of delivering on here without trawling through comments, if available, or going to external sources which are usually generic ratings and not specifically for deals.
Just a thought
:-)
As an update, Paypal says the money have been refunded. I still cannot believe how bad all this experience has been. If HDUK can introduce a similar feature as "Alerts" but called "Avoid" where you can input keywords for merchants that you don't want to see deals for, Groupon would be the first one on my list.
No luck. refused to refund money and been told same story to wait for 24 hours for a "manager" to get in touch. I can hear the laughs in their office....
Fair comment. I'm just afraid that I'm not only One Customer with bad experience with Groupon.......

Thank your card issuer for identifying a fraud issue. Change your non-performing-merchant claim to a fraud claim coincidentally offering to provide affidavit that you have not benefited from the purchase nor permitted anyone else to benefit from the purchase.
Optionally wait to see if it would be beneficial to obtain a fraud crime reference, as Groupon may subsequently uncover some internal mishap when challenged a second time and offer refund which would negate requirement to progress fraud-related claim.
Some did including myself. Seems to be a matter of luck. You just have to be persistent and keep chasing them. Do not believe when say they will come back to you with an update as never do. Keep going on the chat every couple of days and ask to be sorted.
refuse, if paypal dont payout then go via bank for the paypal transaction
send them this, the agreement they made with the gov

Refund prior to investigation? Why on earth would any organisation implement such a customer-trusting policy
I agree. For full disclosure, I did not contacted the Groupon-suport who messaged in one of above post.
Even wasted loads of time raising a support ticket with them. Just to be told there is nothing they can do as the codes have been used
Again not by me as the balance still shows as £0 (edited)
You won't loose out. Just make a claim with your credit card company. Depending on the value and the bank some refund without even looking into it further. Not worth there time.
I feel your pain. I kept trying and trying hoping to get over someone willing to help. I think you'll have to keep asking Groupon to sort it until they agree to help.
Strange. Never had an issue with a credit card claim. Surely Adidas could match card number to a transaction and prove it wasn't you that used it?
Thanks
They can't do that, it's again GDPR now (edited)
Indeed. I tried to make adidas to look into who used the codes I had but beside to tell me the gift cards were used, they could not give any other details due to privacy issues.
Good idea. Loads of deals get mega heat to only find later that nothing is honoured and you wait an age for a refund
Oh Surely they could just confirm it's not you and not tell you there details. But I suppose they'll just say you've passed it onto someone?...become your property until physically in your hand so surely it falls to them? Either way its hassle for you. Keep pestering them. I wouldn't stop until they refunded.
No. I kept trying the chat on Groupom website.
I have been trying but there is a time where you realise that you are getting no where and just wasting more time on it
I know the feeling. It was not about the money. I just could not stand they took me as a fool and kept checking regulary with chat support and asked to speak with a supervisor, sent them the gov.uk link posted in one of previous comments and just made clear i will not give up.
