Hackers fool iPhone X Face ID with simple mask

Meh

It was bound to happen, I still like the idea of face ID though. Hopefully Samsung will copy it for the next note.

So what? Hackers don't generally have someone's hardware.

No that is thieves you are thinking of.

It's a bit of a stretch to suggest that a mask costing $150 in raw materials and which requires a whole team of specialists and researchers to produce is just a "simple" mask.

What will they think of next ?

im more concerned about someone having a 3d model of my face to print off.

Most facial recognition software can't tell my brother an I apart. We are not twins or anything, there are 4 year between us.

Not sure if I look manly or he looks girly But less than ideal if you want to use it as a way of keeping sometime secure from other family members!

This does not surpirse me at all, Facial recognition as always been pants.

No, I'm thinking of hackers doing things remotely and NOT having their paws on hardware. Thieves do have their hands on stuff, so clearly not whati I was thinking of at all.

In fact only a dummy's face will unlock this 1000 pound 'smart' phone

A team of specialists and security experts produced it. That doesn't mean it requires that amount of people.

Simple mask = Very complicated printed mask created using molds directly off someone's face by professional mask makers.

If someone goes through that much effort to get into my phone they deserve access to it imo.

Your constant drone of anti-Apple comments bore me, if you don't like Apple then don't comment on every Apple thread with negative comments.

I think you're confusing me for you. Common mistake.

I've never confused me for you or you for me before...

Anyway I don't see what the difference between hackers and thieves has to do with the price of tea in China...

You can just put them on ignore.

They haven't researched it for normal people.

They still require the phone to unlock, that's the quite obvious point.

Yeh... I assumed that was going to be the case. Why bother to make a 3d face to unlock a phone you don't have?

It wouldn't actually be that difficult. I got a front and side pic of my mate and used them to model his head in 3DS Max. It'd only take a few hours once you got the hang of it.

To full the iPhone it supposedly has to be very accurate, might not be possibly with just photos.

If you have photos with decent resolution and enough patience to fine-tune the vertices it would be.

Possibly, I doubt anyone has to worry about it, unless they are a spy.
