Halfords free bike check

What do we check?

With our free Halfords bike check we inspect points across all key areas of your bike. These include:
· Frame, Saddle & Handlebar
· Wheels; including Tyres, Rims, Spokes and Hubs
· Brake system; including Levers, Calipers, Pads and Cables / Hoses
· Drivetrain; including Gears, Levers, Chain, Bottom Bracket, Cranks and Cables.

What happens?

We carry out what is called an ‘M-check’ on the above areas, checking the bike thoroughly from top to bottom and assessing all elements for signs of wear, damage or adjustment requirements.
This will either confirm that your bike is in good condition to continue riding, or it will determine if any maintenance or service is required in order to maintain safe and efficient cycling. If we spot a problem that requires a service we can book your bike in so it can be repaired by one of our fully qualified mechanics, at a time to suit you.

Wouldn’t bother Halfords are terrible they won’t adjust or touch anything they look at it and say “ the brakes need adjustment which costs £18 “ definitely not a “ free “ bike check
Never forgot the time I purchased a bike from Halfords and some 16 ye old built it , got it home went for a ride and the front wheel fell off as the forgot to put the bolts on tight

Sounds bad, was in there store in Ilford couple of months ago picking up sale clothing , they just don't have a clue about bikes, even left the security tag in the jacket I bought after messing up my order!

When I rang up to complain all they said is bring it in and we will tighten the nuts
Surely we are all old enough to look at a bicycle & know what is wrong with it it?

That happened to me about a month ago after taking it to their rival, after collecting it after having my brake pads changed,I cycled to Tescos and was just positioning my bike to lock it up,lifted the frame off the floor and the wheel fell out

You can guarantee I won't be using them. Thanks for the heads up guys.
I posed a question on local facebook pages asking advice as to who was the best person in the local area and managed to find a top cycling enthusiast that has his own unit and is a perfectionist

way to go Halfords etc, relay on upseling you things you don't need.. and same like Kwikfit, they "specialists" are quite often straight from the street with no skills or even will to do the job (there are exceptions, but very rare in my experience)
I once took a spaceship to Halfords for a check.
Then collected it the next day. Only to be given back a skateboard.
Outrageous CS

I'll never buy anything from them again... unless they have a sale on, then I'll sacrifice my principles.
