Yep,

Going to Neasden Mandhir (temple) tonight to watch the fireworks, then a family dinner. Rest of the weekend lots of eating and visiting people. Should be good I love it when I can get together with all the family espec people you do not see very often.

There is no complete English equivalent Diwali lasts 5 days with each one being something different. The 2 most famous ones are Diwali itself which is the festival of lights, this is to celebrate the returning of Lord Ram and Sita from there time in the forest (and battles...), and how the villagers light the path home with candles (diwa). But can be comparable to xmas, the day after is our new year.
