has anyone been sterlised at the same time as a c-section?

just wondering if it takes much longer and do u have to have general rather than local anashetic?

lol well its down to me as i dont think hes brave enough to have the snip

My aunt had to have a general anaesthetic, cant remember how much longer it took sorry.

My wife's friend was sterilised after her 3rd child - she had a C Section, but was awake for it. She remembered the horrible smell used to burn the tubes :w00t:

Its a lot to go thru at once though, having a baby is hard enough and affects you enough without adding another major procedure on. Try asking your health visitor or midwife if she can put you in contact with someone who has had it done and would be prepared to speak to you.

yes - i did - get spinal block - so much easier than gen anaestetic?

doc found some nicely formed fibroids while he was in there as well :?
    saved lotsa hassle

    edited after seeing kidkat post

was given the option on 1st but declined - just didnt feel ready but on 2nd yes definately

Our friend in Geneva had it down after their third.

It's not the sort of thing I'm into - but I can't see how it can be done on anything other than local. I guess they can finish the birth then knock you out though!!!

A lady I know had it done, she was in a lot of pain after and took longer to heal. Im not sure how long though sorry.

I know what you mean in regards to section, they scare me. Luckily I have had 2 normal births, but I can imagine how you feel.

    Best of luck

Maybe a visit with your OH to a family planning meeting to discuss options then? I looked on it that i had done the really difficult bit and given birth, (nearly dying for two of the births), it seemed only fair that he had the op:-D

well all they kept saying to me was are u alright??
i thought u tell me ur the docs,it made me more anxious and my partner said they put all the blood and guts etc back in and then they got them all out again
it took ages!!i hated every minute of it
so this time it would be my choice to have a section just so i could get sterilised at same time

dont think it was any different actually - specialist was really good - took nerve endings - or something - out - (had to have classical caesarians) as opposed to smiley ones

was walking straight the next day - no caesarian shuffle - ladies you know what its like

regards you getting sterilised ed - you should know your own mind and be really certain about it

i would really to have loved having more babies but knew it wasnt possible due to classical c section and age

make sure in your own mind that you want it - your the one having the babies - its your body

I had emergency c-section and had very very rough recovery. I wont frighten you with details.

However my midwife ( community) promised me that if i had had a planned c-section it woulda been so much better as i wouldnt of been in slow labour for 7 days and active labout for 12 hours b4 hand and woulda been mentally prepare for it all and my recovery mighta been smoother.

If you think about if you plan a c-section, you make sure you get good night sleep night before so your refreshed and your OH and love ones know b4 hnd so arrangements can be made to help you for first few weeks etc

i personally would not have it done at the same time, i would have it done a few months later after the birth, my friend had it done and she saids she just had to take it easy for a day or two and was fine after

the only reason i was thinking of having it done at same time is im terrified of hospitals so i think i would chicken out if i had to go in to have it done
whereas i have no choice but to go into hospital to have baby so may as well get it over and done with

    Original Poster

i dunno i might try and talk him into going it would be alot easier for him and at least then all being well i could have a normal birth
ive always wanted a home birth but they wont allow it as i have had one section

well good luck with whatever you decide. probably different hospitals, consultants have different ideas so will be down to them at the end of the day

Sems easier to get it done there and then after the baby is out,but who knows. You be best speak to your midwife, chances arethough you probably have another normal birth as you have had a few and know what you doing.

Get the man snipped if you ask me!

for the last pregnancy i was offered it,maybe coz i turned up with all the kids lol
so im presuming i will be offered it again or i could choose it cant see them having a problem with it
will have to think about it more,i know i need to be sterilised i dont know anyone else with as many kids as i have, most people tend to stop at 2 or 3 now

That's out of order just to go giving you 1 like that,I beleive they should only be done on emergency or pre planned if things are not looking straightforward.

With that attitude it's no wonder the C-section rate is on average 25% in main units.

I shook when i had my baby, proper uncontrollable, i swear i felt like a vibrator!
