Has anyone just turned up at an airport and booked a holiday ?.

Hi new here,
Has anyone just turned up at for example gatwick airport and bartered with the holiday rep stations on any available holidays.
The reason i ask was one of my friends did just this and went tround the checkin desks at gatwick asking what holidays they had for sale.
He then just before checkin opened, went back and bartered the price down, ie he got a holiday to majorca 2 week all inclusive for £180. they asked for £350 to start with then he returned later and offered £150 but met at £180.
I was wondering if anyone elese had done something similar.
I suppose this is what some young travellers do on a limited budget.

thanks for any replies.

I could understand this a few years ago when companies had cancelled holidays to chalk on a blackboard, but these days offers can be posted on the internet so I would have thought it was easier to do it from home. However, your story above if you can be that relaxed about going anywhere at the last minute seems great value.

Sounds like a good idea if you can do that.

I used to do this all the time in my youth, it works. I did it for several years all over the world, same when it comes to getting cheap seats on flights, very last minute cancellations. Got BA Business class a few times at a pinch.

blinding idea

Hi there

This was the norm years ago when the likes of Lakers were around, but these days as the other post suggests you can bag yourself a better bargain on the internet.

Try www.globallatedeals.com for a start. They offer no frills cheap packages.

Also, I recently needed to fly from Majorca to the Uk and had no choice bu to turn up at the airport to book a flight. I was astonished to find that nearly all of the tour operators desks were in fact closed and I was told that they only open on key days of the week according to their operations schedule. I would assume this is the same in the uk.

Ended up having to pay 249 Euros for a cattle flight with Ryan Air.

Good luck

A fantastic way to keep things exciting in your life Come on darling, we're going on holiday

Why not try slipping £5 to the baggage handlers and get them to turn a blind eye as you and your family climb into the hold?

I spoke to the emirates desk at manchester and they told me all their unsold tickets go to bucket shops, not sold at the airport
