I know petplan want £24.51 and its the same insurance, I want the best for her but if its the same then I will rather go with £10.03 and put the rest away to buy her things

Just had a look for a quote for my Chihuahua - Most sites show a ridiculous price but this only showed £7.08 for standard cover and £10.03 for lifetime cover.

Can someone please tell me the difference between standard and lifetime?

Our standard cover can provide protection for a limited period of time following illness or injury to your cat or dog. Insuring your pet can be expensive, however time limited cover is ideal for customers with a smaller budget who still wish to protect their loved one.

Lifetime cover provides ongoing protection for pets and is ideal for pet owners concerned about their dog or cat developing a long term, chronic or recurring illness.

She has no longterm illness i just want her to be insured, which one do i go for?

they are fine trust me i thought about petplan too but its just to much money to be spending out. i do know that with petplan have good rep but its for the same thing so why spend more than double.

Lifetime cover - Once insured a pet will continue to be covered for rest of its life as long as the policy is renewed each year and the appropriate premium is received. - Is that the only difference... surely with the standard cover the pet would be covered for as long as you keep paying?

    Im confused?

The cover for both types of insurance is the same.

the diffence between lifetime and standard is with standard they will cover an illness per year and its limited. with lifetime if you dog was to get an on going illness you would be covered for the lifetime.its well worth going for lifetime as if its standard and you come to insure you dog again it will cost a fortune if they have got conditions.where as with lifetime the cash allowance is alot more. hope this helps.

no hun they will only treat the condition once and if its over there allowance you would have to pay the difference. lifetime means they will pay out over and over again for the same condition and the allowance is a hell of alot more.always worth going for lifetime cover.

Right so if i had standard and she ended up getting an illness that needed to be treated for the rest of her life i wouldnt be covered? Unless i had the lifetime one?

Sorry to come across thick, its just i have always been wary about getting pet insurance. I believe that if something was to happen it would be such a hassle to get the insurance company to pay out. This is the cheapest i have seen and as she is a tiny chihuahua she is prone to accidents or even being stolen as she is gorgeous and worth a fortune! lol

Might go for this, but would like to know how people got on with any claims?

basically yeah they will only have a certain amount in cash for each illness if they payout for say a major operation and theres no more allowance left then yeah you will be left paying it yourself if your dog needs the operation for the same condition.with lifetime they will cover it for a lifetime no matter how many ops for the same condition so its always worth the extra £££. oh and as for claims they are underwritten by a well known insurance they may not be as quick as petplan but they will pay out. my mum used to be with petplan and the cheque would be with her the next day after the claim but they charge you a fortune for there excellent services basically.

think we are going to get the insurance from pet-insureance - we get 4 weeks free with petplan

Im pretty sure ive heard some not so brilliant things about the under written company, they are ok until you claim then take ages or dont pay at all

Always go for life time cover.

Petplan have rubbish customer service imo, My first dog was costing us £14.37, we got his brother when they were 8months old, so they are the same breed same age etc phoned pet plan to ask how much it would be to add the second dog and they wanted £18 more and that was with a 5% discount they couldnt answer why the same breed and age dog was going to cost £4 a month with discount!

Just to let you know Sainsburys offer a brilliant insurance, they are the same price as this one but they offer £50 cashback through quidco
