Have Specsavers prescribed me wrong sizes contact lenses?

    Banned
    Hi guys,

I recently went to Specsavers and had a check up and asked for daily disposable lenses. Since getting the lenses I have had trouble getting them in, each time I put them in there are bubbles in the lense and I have to blink or press my closed eye for it to sit properly, a lot of the times when getting the lense in it falls out when blinking which is tiresome getting it in Once set in place the contacts are fine.

The thing is when I had a trial of lenses from a private optician the lenses just slid in my eyes and settled into place with a couple of blinks. They prescribed me torics but I the ones from Specsavers have no mention of toric on the box.

Another thing is Specsavers have my "Sph" as 1.50 but the private optician had the "Sph" down as 1.80 which I have only recently found out about. I have had the contact lenses from Specsavers for less than a week. I would appreciate your views on this

positive or negative? if you're positive, you're long sighted.

Regardless, you need a second opinion.
Did you got to opticians for the test but Specsavers for the contacts?

Go back. Lenses should be comfortable and settle reasonably quickly. You should have had a contact lens test at specsavers regardless of any test you may have had elsewhere.

do you astigmatism? The lenses should not move about, nor should they have a bubble.
torics are not written on the box necessarily.
Were they expensive and did the optician take his time to fit them?
If the answer to either of the above is no, you don't have torics

you should not need another test, a prescripion is valid everywhere and for the prescription to vary that wildly should cause alarm.
It should be noted that Specsavers are not the best for tests. They are best at retail frames, The opticians in there tend to be not as experienced as anyone in their own mind would set up themselves.

were both tests for glasses or contact lenses?or one of each, if your prescription for arguments sake was " sph -1.50 and cyl -0.25" you would wear -1.50 contact lenses but with glasses it would be -1.50 and-0.25 cyl..
That said when wearing a contact lense you should not know its there,it could be an eye problem of which there are many, the diameter could be too big causing folding and movement or maybe just the wrong type of contact lense for your eye.

another thing the powers are usually in .25 increments , 1.50,, 1.75,,2.00 etc ,never made a lens with a 1.8 power

Maffster is correct and there other things to consider, a contact lens prescription has both the correction factor (i.e -1.50) and also a contact lens spec which includes diameter and curvature as well as a few other things

Furthermore, a contact lens prescription can vary slightly from a glasses prescription and having -1.50 as a specs prescription and -1.75 for contact lenses for example is not uncommon - but we need to know more details - see your optician and explain the problem but from what i see it may appear that you have a different type of contact lens than your previous one (different material) or the size is wrong (possibly too tight hence the air bubbles) but cannot tell without seeing of course.

Also you say once you get the lenses in they are fine - how long is it taking to settle in?

    180 might be the axis

Thats true but the poster said 1.80 sphere which isnt related to the axis, the cylinder power is. Its a bit confusing and i think the op may have to clear one or two things up
