Have we past the point of no return? why do we have no say anymore?

I am very angry at my local authority.

Lets start with with our Councils recent CO Joke Bryn Parry Jones this guy illegally choose to take his pension payments as a lump sum of cash and then managed to get away with it, he got paid £223,000 per year that's £50k more than the prime minister, his company car choice was a £131,000 Porsche Panamera, and after years of uproar and corruption we rewarded him with a severance package of £330,000 + £2000 a week!! pension

2010 - Judicial review into care home fees cost the County in excess of £200,000.

2011 - The County lost at least £200,000 again due to the same care home fees issue.

2011 - CSIW and Estyn reports into safeguarding in education evoked such terrible responses from Pembrokeshire County Council that further reports were commissioned.

2014 - The "unlawful" pension payments scandal comes to a head. Bryn Parry Jones and another Authority employee directly received pension contributions to avoid tax.

2014 - More bad press has been brought to Pembrokeshire regarding the Council and the Chief Executive's handling of the allegation and conviction of Mik Smith, the Council youth worker who has been jailed for sexually abusing a child. Bryn Parry Jones admitted in a statement that there were significant failings in the disciplinary standards used to handle the case.

This guy was a joke but at least he has gone eh! doesnt matter now... but oh wait!!

now he has gone his effects are now taking place!

An ambulance was turned away from our hospital while they were trying to resuscitate a dying man!!

I have no words anymore, i think i have finally lost the last bit of faith i have in local authorities.. let alone the government.

where will it end? it wont be a good place.

Disgusting, councils need culling at a senior level.

Revolution is the only cure for diseases of greed and cronyism, but even then the new order will not be people of modesty for long

I am not sure any revolutions have resulted in either disappearing, they usually just a sideshow whilst the signs above the doors change.

The problem as i see it is, that democracy is still a wonderful tool, but the problem is the choices in that democratic choice, the average man with aspirations to change the world or do some good cant even get a foot in the door anymore, we are left with the upper class who patronise us with a autocratic sense of entitlement and a we know how you feel attitude.

Labour, Conservative, Lib Dems, UKIP, SNP, Plaid they are all in it for what they can get from it, no one goes into politics anymore to change things, they go into it to claim expenses!

Sign of the apathetic times that I'm focused on being annoyed at his choice of company car!

He should have been given a secondhand Mondeo.:(

A company car should get him from A to B in a cost effective manner, not make him look like Peter Stringfellow's chauffeur swanning around in a Porsche!

You know what though id say keep the Porsche if he was some sort of super Exec if he made the county a better place and solved our local needs and problems, in fact he could have two if he could do all that. sadly he just ripped the ass out of Pembrokesire.

This is exactly why when Councils bang on about reduced funding I take it with a pinch of salt,

This is clearly an anomaly, no one in my council has any company car nor salary anywhere near that.

My local council stopped flash company cars a few years back, gave them all smart cars, unsurprisingly they all wanted to use their own cars

this is the way to go,

He was the highest paid in the country and he took his pension payments as a lump sum to avoid paying TAX!! imagine if i avoided paying my council tax!

The offices at Haverfordwest had a special elevator built specifically for him so he didn't have to ride up with other people!

I am just disgusted by it all and whats worse is all of those who voted to keep letting him get away with this stuff are still working there.

I'd love to use a council car for my work - they don't pay me enough per mile to use my own, so I have to subsidise my employer by providing a car.

But hey, they're all rolling in money, as many seem to think.

whats the worst is the package he was sent on his way with, lets say he lives for 30 years,

would pay for 13,800 ambulance call outs! how many life's would that save? his yearly pension could employ 3 Nurses or 2 Doctors.. it could even pay for 4 medical students.

like i say i have lost all faith.

I don't think they are rolling in money, I just found it amusing they weren't so keen to use a smart car as opposed to the audi and bmw they had been given before, it's a car, gets you from a to b, saves you adding mileage to your own car. But they didn't seem keen.

Big respect to those truthful words

Simple word and it has much meaning but is hardly ever proven in a court of law..........corruption

Whether it be an individual, a management or a business or government it's hard to prove but clearly visible to most.

Even in a truly communist country where everyone is paid the same and given the same rights there is corruption.

The hierarchy/people in power won't do anything because quite possibly they are getting their handshakes.

We need to make government truly/legally accountable and stop tax avoidance/evasion and bonuses when bonuses are not "earned" but how?

If there was a new political party that offered to fix all the issues you wanted would you vote for it? possibly but would you trust it to do as it "promised"...........................................no (it's corruption in it's basic form)

Like Philip pointed out politics is about negotiation at some stage someone somewhere will accept a dodgy handshake and brown envelope whatever you do sadly
Most people will look at this story shrug muter something about politicians and forget about it
and that is the problem getting people to re-engage with politics
That has to start with education and the kids
As to this story I'm fairly sure this guy is an independent like most in the area
and just confirms my suspicion that they are just as likely to be corrupt and self severing as other politicians
We used to have the council here run by them and they were basically Tories but just to shy to admit it
