Have you ever been back to your childhood home?

    Banned
I know some people still live in their childhood home.

I am going to my grandma's old house soon.

I drove past it on my way home from my fella's work this morning.

The lady who currently own's it was taking her son to school.

I had a quick chat with her because my gran lived in that house for approximately 50 year's.

I have so many memories of the house.

My grandad's tomato plants and stews.

My gran always reading mills and boon, drinking tea and being a great gardener and lovely person.

My gran died in 2004 but her memory lives on and the next door neighbour is the same and talks about her sometimes.

She had 6 children one of them my father who will be 60 in July this year.

Unfortunately her youngest son Robert died during an operation on his heart when he was about 12.

My uncle Ian also was involved in a terrible road accident when he was about 5.

She cared for Ian until her death and was a great lady.

I miss her and her strength and I am looking forward to visiting the house soon because the lady has invited me over on monday.

I dont even like driving past my childhood home because it looks different from the outside. I have happy memories there and am happy to remember it the way I do, would feel awkward with someone else living there and everything being different. Thats just me though, I am sure you will feel differently

Hope you have a nice time on monday

Yes I went back to my childhood home a couple of years ago where I lived from the ages of 0-9 in Luton it was quite strange as I knocked on the door and a rather nice Asian lady came to the door and we couldn't understand each other lots of arm waving and mimes from me she understood that I used to live in her house. Now I live five mins from the house I lived in from 9-18 when I moved into my own place.

You sure drop a mention of your "fella" in as many posts as possible.

Now I have a fiancée, we have a 5 year old and I love them to pieces yet I still manage to go scores of posts without mentioning them.

Not a specific pop at you, some others do it too.

Yes I've visited and it seemed much smaller...

My wife never used to live with me in my childhood home, but yes I've cycled past a couple of times. Very odd feeling going near it though.

I was just explaining that I was passing the house due to dropping him at work.

So I could have a day of driving his car for free.

I have a great fella and he deserves a lot of praise

It's just unnecessary adding it in there:

    Could easily be:

    Drove past it this morning

We don't need to know any more detail than that.

Just be wary. Some people, and I'm not saying I'm one of them, attribute the giving of too much unnecessary information in a narrative to be sign of lying.

Others just see it as good storytelling so who knows.

    My oh my!

    Do you want D.O.B's?

It sure will be strange for you going back - hope it doesn't spoil the memories for you! I actually bought my childhood home back from the woman who my dad sold it too years ago. Lived there for another few years after that but needed a bigger place so sold it on. It didn't feel strange going back though - it felt natural just walking about it. Loved it. Hope it goes well

I will be upset if the garden is a mess

I know it is no longer my gran's home but it has stirred my love up for my family I suppose.

    Quit while your behind.

nice idea for a thread DLM but why did you feel the need to fill us in on your entire family history? too much information i'm afraid. i'm sure your family wouldn't appreciate you telling the whole internet how and when certain family members of your's died. i know i wouldn't if it was me.

Oh and yes I have drove past it a few times but never actually went close to it, so many memories there and I wish I could walk through it again.

    Why?

Nothing to hide in my family.

I have a very big family and I might have a surprise party for my dad in July.

It is very interesting I am sure they won't have a black and white TV and a singer sewing machine in the kitchen.

Also would be interesting to see what they do with the larder.

I bet they also have a washing machine and a fridge freezer.

My gran washed everything in the sink and used the larder for cold things.

Eeeek i wouldn't want a stranger snooping around my larder (if i had one, lol) just because their gran used to live there!
