Having trouble Clean installing vista Dvd wont boot after reset

I am having a few issues with my pc at the moment and want to clean install the operating system to default settings/ factory settings. I have changed the boot order to dvd first and it loads the dvd then after a few seconds just goes back to the desktop.

Can I clean install by double clicking the dvd on the desktop and following the instructions?.

    Thanks.

The Vista version is Home Premium x64 and is an OEM from Ebuyer.com

do you not have to press any keep to get it to boot from disc?

I had this problem a while back, no matter what I did it would just boot from the HD, in the end I opened up the case and put my HD and DVD RW on the same IDE cable using the disk drive as the master an the HD as a slave

Yes it probably would, when I used to use my wireless keyboard I couldn't access any boot menu's / bios menus etc with it

Yep, I had this with a USB wireless keyboard, So I used my PS/2 Wireless keyboard instead.

I've got a different USB wireless keyboard now and that works but I've also got a different computer so it could be a Bio's setting.

not quite true as a lot of newer main boards have support in the bios for "legacy USB"
whether or not this is switched on when you receive the pc is a different matter and varies.
If the OP had changed her bios drive boot order with the keyboard, then it is switched on and its a windows issue which would probably be a matter of compatibility, that won't happen with a ps2 keyboard.

Yes it should work. USB keyboard on its own may work too (as already stated).
