It might have connected at a slow speed due to some interference on your phone line so, in the immortal words of the IT Crowd, "have you tried switching it off and on again?"

Connection issues
We have recently repaired a major network fault which made it difficult to connect to the internet. If you have a USB modem please unplug the modem, restart your computer and then reconnect the modem. If you have a Broadband router please power it down for at least 3 minutes before attempting to reconnect. This should restore your service but if it does not please call back and get help from an advisor. Ongoing

You could buy a 3-user ]Norton Internet Security 2009 for only £23.49 from Amazon which you can install on 3 computers. It's so cheap because the 2010 version is due out very soon.

If past performance is repeated, you'll be able to sign up for a free trial of NIS 2010 on their website which allows you to download it and then simply use the key from your 2009 copy. Otherwise, keep using the 2009 version as it really is the best version yet and doesn't slow things down nearly as much as the older versions did.
