Hayfever - can you take more than one tablet a day?

I know it says on the pack not to exceed the dosage, but I'm finding that taking one tablet a day just isn't doing the job for me. Are there any side-effects in taking 2 a day?

    Cheers

Are you seriously asking for medical advice on a public forum? :w00t:

Go to a pharmacy and ask them.

    Erm...yeah!

Dont use the 1 a day. they're cr*p. Get piriton tablets and take 1 every 4-6 hours. Best cure for me.

There are 3 major different types of hayfever tablets.

Some are 1 a day some you can take a couple or more.

Probably worst will be you'll fall asleep...forever...no just kiddin :-D

But seriously I would check with someone who has some form Pharmacological training.

Would be better trying a stronger antihistamine, go see your doctor and see what they prescribe (but you can then buy it from chemist yourself, probably cheaper)

Buy one of these to keep the pollen away............and then sell it for a profit in the Autumn as i hear they are going to be the must have fashion accssesory :-D

Thanks. I currently use Cetirizine Hydrochloride 10mg tablets. Loratadine doesn't work for me. Only opted for these because they're cheaper than the Piriton ones!

I find it works better if I take half a tablet in the morning and then the other half in the afternoon.

The nasal spray is excellent as well but you should start using it regularly before your hayfever starts.

Every 6-8 hours matey, same as me.....and my dog!! Seriously, i suffer terribly from it.....am dying to go on a holiday to stop it for a week

You can buy a generic version of piriton at chemists (chlorphenamine), I paid approx 1.50 for 24 from my local chemist. You are best to go to see a pharmacist as they can advise the best option for your symptoms.

Which tabs are they mate? They are probably not licenced for more that once daily but i often see patients taking either one tablet twice daily or two tablets once daily of the loratidine and cetirizine from the gp

They are Cetirizine Hydrochloride 10mg tablets. They seem to last for about 6-8 hours.

It's not licenced for twice daily usage but take one in the morning and another late evening. Should do the trick. Or as others say take piriton, its better than the non drowsy ones

Nice to hear this advice from a pharmecist. I struggle to get into a pharmacy and have often wondered this same question myself as I take a tablet in the morning but then by early evening it's getting bad again but haven't dared take a second tablet. Will try it a few times as I can feel it kicking in now, have been taking tablets since the start of March as this was suggested to build up an immunity (can't stand honey before anyone suggests this route) so it will be interesting to see if it makes any difference this year - I OFFICIALLY HATE HAYFEVER!!!

Just for future reference, if you call your local chemist you should be able to talk to your pharmacist over the phone. We have many times. Best to call the chemist you usually use as they will have a list of your current tablets on the computer.

yes your head will literally fall off.

    Try it and find out

Seriously though I suffer terrible with hayfever and I use a nasal spray with an antihistamane daily and it seems to work for me.

Vaseline applied discreetly up your nose coats the hairs and helps trap pollen, thus reducing your allergic reaction.

What will happen if I taken 3 tablets

You will join hukd just to bump a 6 year old thread oO

I stopped having sugar and remarkably stopped having hayfever.
Im aware also that cheese is mostly histamine - you do the maths.
Its complicated but before the meds forever route figure our what your body is yelling at you about and forgive it and let go... I still have cheese and sugar sometimes but I don't do hayfever unless I'm very bored.

Note to self "must buy Vaseline"
