in what way?

Nah, torrents are safe if you know what are doing and look at comments.

What ISP you on?

deep packet inspection makes it unsafe

i'm with talktalk

Can't vouch for either of these sites but they both have open signups at the moment:
hdahoy.org/reg…php
hd-space.org/acc…php

Take a look on btracs.com/ to see more torrent sites with open signups going on at the moment. Warning: site has porn banner adverts so NSFW.

Well, you might wanna try here before using torrents...

Unfortunately not all providers have usenet, but they are better than torrents under certain circumstances! if any files are older than 7 days on virgin, you can't get them.. but if they fall within this.. you get them at full speed.

BT's usenet, is unlimited age, but has a max download rate of about 150kb/sec... which is probably still better than torrents ( as no upload is required )

not sure on others..

Problem with using your ISPs usenet servers are that they'll have logs of everything you downloaded. But, realistically, the chances of the BPI/RIAA/MPAA requesting their logs is pretty slim.
Have used Virgin's servers myself but the 7 day retention made it difficult to get anything but the latest film/game/music releases..

Yeah that's the problem! But i mainly use it for downloading TV shows(it helps to know when they're out), which afaik, isnt really that illegal. I use astraweb as a backup to catch things that can't be downloaded, which uses SSL.

torrents on my usual private trackers give me 2.1mb/s on virgin 20 meg - so im happy with torrents

Much prefer Usenet, no upload bandwidth required. Therefore online gaming isn't affected.
