Hi a friend has just purchased a blu ray player but has just realsied that his tv only has 1 HDMI input. He already has sky hd so is wonderinmg what he can do. Can you purchase a splitter so he can have both devices working at the same time? any recommendations would be useful as I'm not sure what he would exactly need after googling it before. Thanks

Hdmi splitter, now you can use google. Thank you good night.

I thought a splitter was for splitting the signal of one device to 2 TV's. He needs to have 2 devices attached to one TV but only has one hdmi port. ???

You can get HDMI splitters which have multiple inputs and one output (i.e. plug lots of things in and plug the splitter into the TV's HDMI port)

Not sure exactly how they work but I'd imagine they have a switch or something on to indicate which device you want to use.

You could use a splitter, but you would have to manual switch between the sourcesalthough I believe you can get ones with a remote control though.

That would be the cheap option, the better but more expensive option would be to buy an av receiver. Which takes in all your inputs both video and audio, processes them and dishes them out to one output.

You are correct. An HDMI splitter allows one HDMI input to be split to 2 outputs. You need an HDMI switch. Don't purchase an HDMI splitter as that does not meet your requirements.

You can get a Logik HDMI switch for around £6 inc delivery on ebay

yep hdmi switch is the best choice

there are manual or automatic switches available (personally i'd go with a manual one)

Can you purchase a 'Y' adaptor that fits in the back of the tv and then allows you to attach 2 hd leads to it? A switch box seems a bit cumbersome.

As long as there is a switch built in, it will be fine but the problem is that for such a small device, it will have to be a manual switch and you won't want to be reaching round the back when manually switching. You will find that the majority will be boxes in order to house the switching circuitry. Splitters are different, especially non-amplified splitters which require little or no circuitry.

I know you mention that a box is cumbersome but this one may make up for the inconvenience with auto switching and remote controlled switching:

You won't find remote control switching on small Y cables or auto-sensing switching.

The description says 1 input to 3 outputs (ie. a splitter) - that is wrong. It is 3 inputs to 1 output, ie. it switches 3 inputs.

If you're interested I have one identical to the link above that I bought from Aldi.
It's got 3 inputs and 1 output, auto switches and also has a remote.
Don't worry that the pic in the link has a power socket, it's powered from the HDMI cables.

My new TV has plenty of HDMI's so it's sitting in the cupboard doing nothing.

Can let you have it as long as postage is covered.

Hi that's really kind of you. What postage would you need? I live in fleetwood near Blackpool. I will pm my full address. Thanks again.

I've packaged it up, and will put it in the post tomorrow.

I'll let you know how much after it's posted, but I wouldn't imagine it will be more than a couple of pounds.

Did you receive it ok? And if so some form of repayment would be appreciated.

Bump!!!
