Hi

So just bought this - currys.co.uk/mar…jsp[email protected]@@@[email protected]@@@&BV_EngineID=ccedadegdghjlfjcflgceggdhhmdfoi.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=156398&category_oid=-30719#productInformationSection - for mum and dad to play divxs.

Problem is i can't get any sound to output when playing them, either through the hdmi or the scart. Tried various options etc but nothing having any effect. Regular dvds (both genuine and not) work perfectly well.

Google isn't being very helpful on this one

Can anyone please help?

Thanks in advance!

Problem is it won't play any .avis at all with sound. Just wanted to play divxs without messing about re-encoding all my files

If i can't find a solution by tomorrow it'll be going back :x

some uk models have the divx stuff disabled. My Sony dvd hdmi has disabled all divx stuff altogehter whereas the jap and some other EU version can play divx altogether.

That probably just means it's the same model all throuhout Europe.

What makes you think it should play avi files?, there's nothing in the product specification on any of the DSG sites that says it should :?

Its specced as able to play mp4s so i'm assuming that includes divxs

I assume it says that on the instructions or the box as the description on the site is abiguous to say the least

Mpeg could just be Mpeg2 not 4, or it could be a typo for Jpeg as it mentions photos not video.

Its definitely mpeg 4, says it on the box

And besides, if it wasn't compatible i'm fairly sure it'd display "incorrect format" like it does if you try and play an .rm file (for example), not play the file perfectly but without sound

OK but mp4 isn't quite the same as avi, the containers are different and they handle sound differently, just because it plays one it doesn't mean it plays the other.

I'd be more confident about it playing avi if it said it plays DivX.

Edit

Try converting the files to mp4

Unfortunately mp4 isn't a universal format, as mentioned above it sounds like the player doesn't have an audio codec (which is separate to the video codec) for the divx you're trying to play back. My Archos device has mp4 support however it can't universally play all divx files, it only has support for certain audio codecs and won't work with video files which have a non-supported audio codec.

Really don't want to be re-encoding tbh, got this as an alternative to re-encoding everything (which i have to do at the moment)

Think i'll just have to take it back and swap it

Thanks though
