    Head teacher bans striking pupils

A head teacher, who banned more than 100 pupils from a Basingstoke school after they went on strike, told their parents by sending a text message.

Some 117 pupils at Brighton Hill Community College failed to attend lessons in protest over a plan to extend the school day by 20 minutes.

This ridiculous, haven't the teachers themselves just voted to strike :whistling:

They finish school at 1445????? That is half a day!!! In my day I was lucky if I finished at 1630, most days it was 1800. And we did sport every day.....

    we finish at 1515

i would exclude all the kids for good they hardly work at school if they finish at 1445hrs already. No wonder there ar so many lazy little oiks around seeing as school is part time and even then if they can be bothered to attend. And im sure the parents are as much to blame letting the kids strike...what a laugh...still the more thick kids that leave school the more chances there are for me to make even more money due to a poorly educated work force. another addition to the dole queue!!! Yeah....

I left school 10 years ago and it was 3.25 we finished but there still was old signs saying like 4.45pm

That length of time was fine with me.

We finished at 3:15 and i was happy with that.

My point is that all the teachers around the country have just voted to go on strike. However, when the pupils do it, the VERY SAME people suspend them.

Should the LEA suspend the teachers that are striking as well?

I finished at 3:40 when I was at school 4 years ago. Lazy gits

teachers are working for a living.......

pupils are there to learn by law....if they dont like it..... go for home schooling or go to a different school!

    pathetic

I think a lot depends on what time school starts and the breaks the kids … I think a lot depends on what time school starts and the breaks the kids have now, here most schools finish at 2.30, but school starts (register) is at 8.25The kids get a max of 25 mins at lunchtime and 2 15 min breaks, so in all 5 hours and 5 minutes of educationwhen i was at school, we started at 9, finished at 3.30, had an hour for lunch and 2 x 15 mins breaks, so less school a week by 25 mins (i think)! may have worked it out wrong, not sure ;-)Edited to add: I went to a Grammar School and think that was pretty standard back in the days of Grammar Schools!

My school started registration around 8.40 but you were expected to be in the grounds by 8.30 and finished around 3.30 with 2x 10 minute breaks and 30 minutes for lunch and a lot of schools were open later than that we had the least amount of time there.

Poor kids in school less than 6 hours a day then complain.

What are they going to do when they have 8-12 hour work days and no long holidays

    10.45 - 12:00 - Lesson3/4
    12:00 - 12:45 - Lunch
    12:45 - 12:55 - Registration
    12:55 - 14:05 - Lesson 5/6
    14:05 - 15:15 - Lesson 7/8

It wasn't the teachers that were on strike, it was support staff ie, Lunchtime supervisors, Caretakers, TAs etc. Those mere mortals aren't allowed to suspend kids

    Just finished doing A-Levels.
    The school hours were 8:45-3:50!
