Help - Anyone clued up on electric fires / old gas back boilers or both?

The parents have an ancient back boiler / gas fire (gloworm galaxie) and are looking to replace it with an electric fire and a combi-boiler situated in a different room upstairs.
They've bought a new electric fire but have no hearth fireplace or surround and I don't think it'll be suitable.

    ]New fire

Will they need a fireplace / hearth / surround or will it be ok?
Should I tell them to get a wall mounted job?

    TIA

Cheers for the reply jambo1082, persuaded them to go down the wall mount route... loads better looking, etc

If they are gonna get a combi, go with the best...Vaillant. Depending on the size of the house depends on the size of the boiler. I have a 3 bed with 1 bathroom and I have an EcoTec Plus 831.
