Help !! Car Insurance Quote Issue - NCD is greater than number of years licence held

I have been trying to get some quotes for car insurance on the websites mentioned on MSE article but having problems getting a quote. The reason being i have had the full UK licence for less than 2 yrs but had the car owned and insured since my provisional so have a NCD of 4 yrs...
But the quotes dont appear on some of the websites as the NCD is greater than the number of yrs licence held...
Am i doing something wrong here ?? I have renewal letter from Halifax for 4 yrs NCD ..

but basically the question - number of yrs licence held is only for the Full UK right? am sure they cannot include for provisional..

mmm.... my dad had a similar situation.... he had a garage full of bikes and old cars, all insured for next to nothing, had this for a few years. then when he wanted to insure a more expensive car he told them he had 70 odd years of no claims bonus. which combined he did. needless to say they didn't like it!

i say similar loosely. just a nice story i thought you might enjoy really!

Hmmm I would phone and check. My dad's insurance ended up cheaper when he put my mum on his policy cos she'd had a provisional for almost 20 years... so that obviously counted for something

Thats a good idea .. but i was trying to use the MSE guidance as using the broker websites - moneysupermarket, comparethemarket & confused.com ... Some of them do accept that way but not all of them....

    Thats a nice one ....

i had this situation with having a ped before, and getting a no claims discount. Well certain car insurers accept it as a years NCD but its not possible to do online due to the validation checks, so you have to ring up for qoutes to sort it out.

i have the same problem today .. but i may go as well with esure as they have been the cheapest today so far.... Is there it worth paying extra for the NCD protection....? sorry going a bit off topic here

I had the same problem, though mine was cause i had been driving and had been insured on an international permit. The best and cheapest have found is NFU mutual, best thing is that some one actually picks up the phone. No press 1 for this and rubbish like that.
Plus they have free key replacement with no excess. So if you loose your keys, call them and they replac ethe locks and key for you. No charge, and NCB remains. Plus for new drivers and special cases they bump your NCD by 1 yr as an incentive. And every year the Mutual shares its profits with the policy holders. As this was my first year, they offered me £35 cash as my bonus. Plus only theft and glass exess to pay, no other excess unless you want to set up a voluntary amount. They are good, got my insurance from Directline @£630 down to £487with NFU. Plus I paid by direct debit, they werent free for this, but charged me only £1 per month more. Which is a steal!! I am slowly moving most of my policies with them.
Any one have any expereinces with them yet!!

Its weird I know but if you add an additional female driver its usually cheaper for some reason.

They must think a single bloke is a worse risk than possibly having a woman in the car saying "slow down":whistling:

Its not worth it until you get to a situation where you wish it was protected:p

Well if you are within the 14day period, then have a look. NFU dont have an online service. You call up the number, and speak to a human being.. and they will take you through it. I remember when I started, I was soo fed up with the online quotes. And this guy from NFU was soo thorough and explained everything. And I told him everything as well, took a good 20 mins. And in the end I thought he is gonna come up with like a £1000 quote (believe me the post office and Sainsbury did) and then he said, well it will be £487 for the year or £499 on direct debit. I was well pleased.
Plus they also have unlimited EU travel cover standard free, and you get free pay as you go breakdown cover as well (I already had RAC through my Bank). And if you garage your car, you have a £0 excess for theft. Just incase they dont let you know.

    Cheers
