HELP! Dell Studio 1937 Laptop Accident (Vista)

Spilled about 1/4 glass of water over keyboard on laptop. Was still working for a few hours, but after restarting it won't open up. Any suggestions please. Really need to get it working as have loads of work etc on it. Got most of it backed up, but need to access some of this stuff today. Thanks in advance.

You're lucky it was Vista and not Windows 7.

If it won't power up remove the hard drive & either plug into a pc as a 2nd drive or put it in a usb caddy to enable you to get a copy of your important stuff. Hard drive is likely to be ok but laptop might not. Take eveything off that comes off easliy ie battery cd drive and put somewhere warm for a few days. you might get lucky if it was just water.

    Damn, that's an old laptop!

Was just water thankfully! Thanks for that will give it a go.

i spilt a pint of water over my brand new (at the time Sony Vaio) whilst on and plugged in....

i let it dry out for 2days... that was 3 years ago and im replying to you on it now,....

hence... my advice, leave it for a while, let it fully dry out.... if you've been trying to start it you might of already 'blown' it

Wow that's pretty good going! Left it to try and dry out by itself, someone else told me to do the same thing. Hoping there's light at the end of the tunnel - cheers.

Best advice for anything electrical. Generally if it's not already shorted out there is a good chance it will be fine when dried. Remove battery pack and don't plug in of course. However as you had it running for a few hours ( I can't believe you did that) I think "blown it" is an accurate observation.
