    Help fixing up bike

I need a bike after mine was stolen, so I've decided as I don't really have the money to buy a new one, i'll fix up an old one I have. I've come to the conclusion it's going to need these things replacing:
    Brakes (including levers)
    Chain
    Pedals

The sprockets are a bit rusty, I've taken some pictures (link below) so can someone tell me if they can be saved with a bit of WD40 and wet and dry?

I'll probably also be looking at buying:
    Gear controls/grips on handle bars
    Seat
    Crank arms

I'm looking for spend around £50/60, so if anyone can help by linking me to some parts that will be in my price range, or if the budget's too low, tell me what I can get for the money. The bike doesn't have to be amazing, it's not going to be used for proper mountain biking/jumping etc.

Looks ok to me should be fine with a bit of work, I use wire wool as well with WD40 and of course if you do need to change the chain then it is wise to get new sprockets so they wear together

    Good luck!

Hi mate, thanks. Do you know any good sites where I could buy stuff? Also, I had this bike when I was about 13/14. I'm now 18 but I'm only 5'5. Do you think the frame will be too small (14" I think). And do you think I'll be able to get the parts I need for around £60?

Might be able to buy a second hand bike from a boot sale or small ad and either use that, or use it for parts. May be the cheapest option.

This might sound really cheap, but is there ever anything at tips that people have thrown away that's worth taking for parts?

For the price it 's great and of course all bikes sold have to be up to standard To be honest can you imagine the problems If Asda started selling crap bikes!

Just read the one review and it all looks positive and on the page it says that Asda are selling these at zero profit to encourage people to get on their bikes

I'll have a think about that one then, I really wanted front suspension. I'll probably have a look in some local ads and go to some car bootsales to see if I can get a cheap bike for spares. Thanks for your help

I remember when growing up there was a family with several boys who lived nearby and they had loads of part bikes in their shed. It became the meeting place in summer like a local bike repair shop. Everybody seemed to have customised bikes with at least one non standard thing that had been transferred from another bike.
I guess manufacturers would have said "cant ride that, its dangerous". But it allowed for many hours of fun in school holidays.
Seemingly there are lots of people that say if you dont spend 100s of pounds on a bike you will die. And there are lots of people who will believe them. What are you planning a round the world trip? Just get mobile.
