    HELP HELP HELP

partner has just come home and said there is a seagull walking around up the road with half his wing hanging of and blood all down his side,

he phoned the rspb (no answer) then phoned rspca who said they cant come till tomorrow,

so we went up the road and we noticed it was one of a breading pair.the other was calling for her from the roof and you could see 2 or 3 little chicks hopping about on the chimney,

we were going to attempt to catch the bird in a box but the neighbour said its best to leave it die,but i have just come home and feel ill about it the thought of it and the chicks dying

the lady said it is probably the mother that is injured as the other is not sitting on the nest,

were we right to leave it or should i go back?

it has probably died but you were probably better off ending it humanely unless a vet was willing to operate.

phone a local vet - they should be able to come out and take it into safe keeping until the rspca can respond...

it wasnt on its last legs or anything it was still running around

In a similar situation I thought it best to kill the bird before a dog or cat got to it. The RSPCA would not assist at that time either. Still makes we feel sick when I remember it.

:?awwww thats a shame think a would have to go back and get it in a box until you can get the rspca

call a vet who may be able to nurse it or operate..

Phone a vet, they might be able to save it and if not will put it to sleep as it obviously isnt dying soon if it is still running around. It might be ok just not able to fly. Definately phone a vet and ask them.

Awww..... let us know how you get on :-(

i would bring it back and try to keep it safe until they can come, i found a bird a few years back on the side of the road, its leg was broken with a cut on its body, we kept it until the rspca were available couldn't really moved when we got it but after feeding it abit it seemed to hop on the one leg. we let it fly around the garage and spreads and it seemed like it would survive.

i would have taken it in till the rspca could come, but the neighbours might be right

    good luck

the father is flying out of the nest now trying to find the injured bird and the chicks are calling
luckily we didnt get attacked, not had a proper look at the bird as we caught it in a sheet an wrapped it up as we didnt want the other seagul seeing us with it

waiting for a call back from the vets

Thanks for the straight answer

To be honest, it doesn't sound like its going to survive with the blood loss etc. I know it may be upsetting but I think the best bet would be to kill it, save it from suffering. Unfortunatly we have to do it too regularily with a pair of hunting cats.

    oh i hope shes ok

    any news?????????????

    no news
stil waiting for a call back

im sat in front room and through my patio doors i can see and hear the otherseagul circling and calling

feel sorry for them especially as there are chicks but the seagulls are a pest around here the keep nesting in the chmneys and diving on people as they pass,

but still i dont want them to suffer especially the chicks

hope it survives good luck

poor daddy seagull looking for his women i really hope they can be reunited

me too i need to go to bed as got to work 13hr shift tommorrow but this is gonna keep me awake thinking of the poor family

I am going to bed soon...can you post and let us know what happens? I'll check back in the morning. Maybe you should leave the injured bird some water. Hope it all goes ok...sorry I can't be there to help (not that I could do a lot but stay awake!)
