Anything at that price will do the job. There's a few deals on Acer's etc at PCWorld/Curry's. I probably wouldn't go anywhere else on the high street if you're buying today...

I'm assuming the online booking is done through a website hosted by a company rather than you doing it...

Thank you, Yes Conan257 it is through website. I don't mind ordering online and paying next day if something better out there

We eventually (after a month of searching) bought the acer aspire e521 from Tesco £329 - recommended by friends husband who works in computing - and we've been really pleased with it. Quad core processor, so can handle games that my son plays (Minecraft, roller coaster tycoon). I haven't checked elsewhere since Xmas to compare prices, but this was the best price at the time. Hope this helps

As recommended you need to actually see and touch a range of laptops and see what you like about the screen, keyboard - esp if doing numeric work, but here are some pointers:-
Spreadsheets need minimum 15" screen - that rules out a lot of notebooks.
    Keyboard is a personal taste.
You are looking for a 'Desktop Replacement' not a gaming machine here.
For business Dell is a good fall-back but you may see others you like.
Look at Amazon's Best Sellers around your budget and see their feedback. Also NotebookCheck.com recommended - what to look for when purchasing. Also techradar.com Top 10 Laptops. The processor (cpu) can be AMD or Intels i3-4xxx or i5-4xxx ideally.
Reliability is what you are after so you may need good support.
Ultimately your booking system has to run on whatever you choose so ensure it is compatible with whatever you have - best to ask other users of the booking system what they found easy to use - or better the booking system's own company direct.

Most business laptops cost £500 minimum but try to be flexible here as you will waste a lot of time and money chasing the ultimate. Consider a good refurbished Dell - see jamies.org.uk/onl…tml which is a charity recycling pcs for a good cause.

Thank you RetiredHelper very good point about the screen size. Lots to consider with all the CPU,AMD, Intels etc... I have given in and sent my dad. thank you all for your knowledge:)

For £400 you can get a very powerful machine, and with the extra £100 i would get a monitor as having two screens while multitasking is a huge help (you can drag windows over direct from one screen to the other, making flipping back and forth much easier).

good luck with the guesthouse - can we come and stay with you??

ps, if you're looking for someone to do your website and some internet marketing i might be able to help.

Thanks espirit77 into our third season now. We are pretty sorted for the website thank you, but when new projects come along will keep you in mind. As a small independent we often have to come up with new ideas.

Business laptops cost more because they come with extended warranty, enhanced support and the pro version of windows.
Without you have a domain or need the extra features windows pro isn't worth any extra cost.
While the extended warranty and extra support are good a small business would need to way the cost vs reward.

I forgot to recommend you can use a USB (wired or wireless) mouse & keyboard (with a proper number keypad) which you may already have - I use Logitech Nano items.
The most important question is 'What do you want to use it for' (which you answered) because that determines which Operating (OS) System will run it - MS Windows variants, Apple OSX (over budget) or Linux (or Chrome if browser-based - but not recommended for business).
I would also check Argos customer feedback on their laptops and John Lewis to ask if they can price match one of their product sold cheaper elsewhere as you get 2 years warranty often free as well. Otherwise buy from a trusted supplier.
The laptop should come with a DVD drive for serious business backup but you can add USB devices for this.
I answered this in more depth as it is a minefield and others may want to know similar answers. Also check ExpertReviews.com and PC Pro A list.
