I am looking to buy a Sony Bravia 40D3000 and trying to get JL to price match so i can get their 5 year guarantee, having found several retailers advertising at substantially less than they are i went into the store with the necessary but am getting fobbed off and the 'rules' keep changing (or thats how it seems - maybe i just don't gettit?!)
Have given them : independant shop (not just online) within 10 miles of JL store, shop confirmed to me they have one in stock and can purchase at web price.
JL say 'oh they won't really have one in stock, so we won't price match'

Is there anything i can do, Please Help!:x

take the phone number of the local store and get them to call. You are talking to the manager right? don't mess with any lackeys.

As long as the " bricks and mortar " store has the item for sale and in stock at the quoted price, John Lewis will price match it.

Ask for the Manager, take a print out of John Lewis's " Price Match " guarantee with you.;-)

I had a nightmare with them. Wanted to price match a TV from empire direct which was 449 online same price instore. She said she went and it was 479 I called ED and they said its 449, called JL back she told me they were lying lol. Anyway, kicked up a fuss, and got it price matched

From experience, the big sticking point with the price matches is that when JL staff check out the price instore at the competitor you've matched against, if the store doesn't have the price on display next to the tv, then they instantly dismiss it.

If you haven't already read it, there's a huge thread on the AVForums site regarding this whole process, and there's a lot of good advice on there. It seems that one of the best to match against is ED, as they have many lower online prices than JL, but also have outlets across England where the prices are the same as online (plus perhaps the delivery charge).

If you have the time to be patient and don't need a tv immediately, it's worth persevering, when you can save £100s, and get a five year guarantee thrown in I did all of mine via email to the local JL store, only talked to someone once when they called to tell me it might take a while for them to check out a particular store in London!

Good luck...:)

Write to head office, we did and they did it price matched and the gurantee.

Thanks everyone :-)

i'm trying to get hold of the CS Manager at the JL store now, DP is itching to get his hands on his new telly so i need to be quick!
Empire Direct are not one of the cheapest (£975) i have found a shop which has it for £844, £400 cheaper than JL !!!
Even Co-op Electrical online have it for £900 with free delivery but i want the 5 year guarantee.

Will persevere and let you know how it goes!

You probably just spoke to one of the idiots at JL, just try again - you will probably speak to somone else who is more helpful.

Are you certain that it is a " Shop "?..not an online retailer, they will not match online.

Does the shop have it on display with the price clearly marked?..if not, again JL will not match.

How does JL price matching work?

Are there rules as far as how close the matching shop needs to be?

I'm in the same position as the OP as far as wanting a 40d3000, so please if you do manage to get a good price match let us/me know.

Not having any luck so far, they've offered it at £1000 - based on what i don't know as DP spoke to them, got fed up and wouldn't carry on the argument.

This is the deal and shop, digital-point.co.uk/mod…038.
deffo bricks and mortar as i said i would go in in person and they said ok.

thanks to mattk3410 regarding avforums, there is a thread on there about JL not matching with this retailer. looks like when JL phone up they say they haven't got one so's they don't lose the business themselves :x

will keep trying tomorrow now.........
