Help- Looking for Good Web Hosting Services

Hi everyone. Im looking into starting a website, nothing big nor fancy. But would like to have a .Com address, good amount of space etc. Can anyone recommend a company, idealy that they have been with or have heard good words about. Im not looking to spend to much however, looking to spend about £100 for a 2 year hosting package.
Any help would be appreciated.

Spell out a bit more on your needs.

But I'd wholeheartedly recommend either ]34sp.com or ]liquidsix.com

I'd also recommend NOT buying your domain from the hosting company. (I get all my domains from ]123-reg.co.uk )

I would like to have email included, some ftp software would be nice and cpanel, good support and good server operation.

The website you recommended do you know if they do free domain name transfers?

Yes they have this. (Though its pretty much standard on any host tbh.)

Yes. 123-reg offer free transfer to or from their service. (Thats actually quite important - I've read some examples where hidden in the small print are transfer away charges of up to £200!)

If you bought your domain elsewhere, I still wouldnt recommend 123-reg to be your site host. There are cheaper and better alternatives. However, the reason I suggest keeping them seperate is for a very simple reason.

Say your webhost started to have problems, or you fell out with them. They could seriously damage your ability to use their service - even block it (eg they didnt like the content). With your Domain hosted elsewhere, you simply change the nameserver tags, plonk the site elsehwere and you are back up and running within a couple of hours and the nasty host is history!

Most people in the know, will recommend you keep the seperate though.

Ok guv you been a great help just one question more(hopefully) . From the help you have given me im probs going to purchase the domain from 123 reg then transfer it to either 34sp.com or liquidsix.com and get a web hosting package of them. What would you say is the standard price for 1 years worth of hosting on a standard package, sorry i know thats very wide ranging question.

www.one.com. Think it cost me around £10.50 for a year but if you go through quidco you get £10 cashback making it 50p or something for the year. You get free.com domain, ftp and unlimited e-mail accounts i believe. Been with them for almost a year now and very happy, would definately recommend.

Before I go further, it sounds like you've missunderstood.

Buy your domain from 123-reg - but DONT transfer it. You have a control panel where you tell it the names of the servers your site is hosted. (Aptly named "Nameservers" !) The internet then does the rest and will find your website hosted on company X's servers.

Cant really answer the last question. Better to say how much space you think you will need and go from there. (For all I know, you might only need 10MB of storage space..... no point in paying for something you wont need or use!)

I cannot recommend them enough. I have used them for years for various websites. I currently pay around $8 a month and for that I get about 500GB of storage space and 1TB of bandwidth - although I believe now that all new signups get unlimited storage and bandwidth.

They also have an awesome Control Panel system with loads of easy to install software like Wordpress and photo galleries.

Dan, whilst I myself have a dreamhost account, I'd have to say I doubt Dreamhost would be the best option for the OP.

I agree with what you say about the control panel, amount of space and bandwidth (though they have another gotcha in place CPU usage - which I found out about to my cost!!!!!!)

But that aside, being west coast USA based, it puts a fair amount of lag in place, plus google searches (esp as the OP wants a .com) will mean it being penalised within google UK.(which is not a good thing!)

However, for mass storage etc, they definately are a good option.

i reccoment nearlyfreespeech.net/

i've been with them for 7years now

it is a pay-as-you-use provider and its really cheap.
you pay for exactly the size of files you got stored, and exactly the bandwidth you use... and its quite cheap. you topup whatever amount you need... i usually topup 10$ using paypal everytime my allowance runs out.

they provide a very good admin panel, mysql process if you want and their support is excellent! they are willing to help even with the most trivial subjects and get back to you in less than an hour (from personal experience)

uptime is nearly 100% and they keep backups too

you get ftp as well as ssh access too

as perfect as it gets!
