Help making backup disc on Sony Vaio VGN-FW56E. Spits out DVDR's

    Hi folks,

wondering if anyone has had any problems making back up dvd's.

I have done all the updates as asked when from new gone to put in my dvdr and all it does is spit it out and say please put in a blank disc??

Bought new pack of MAXWELL DVD+R's yesterday..

Very odd, don't want to screw up my new lappy.

Even the guy a Sony said it should write to both + or - on modern machines...

    Thanks

Tried Philips yesterday. Had then in a while, said the same thing.
Made me think they had been used thats why I bought new ones..
Do you think it makes a difference now a days with + or -. Confusing or what?:?

+ or - shouldnt matter on a DVDRw drive, Could be something as simple as a bit of dust inside the drive on the laser ,,Try giving it a blow out ,

Sometimes that happens. I vaguely remember the same thing happened when I tried it on my vaio couple of years back. I just checked and my back-up dvds are DVD-R discs. Give those a try. But as someone said, +/- should not matter.

Edit: Checked my vaio manual and it states

What I understand from this is that NOT ALL computer supports DVD+R

    Thanks everyone for your help.

Tried different discs + - made no difference. So ended up taking it
back to pc [email protected] went through it with them.
Didn't work for them either, so they just changed it
    for another new one.

Still boxed up as yet, will attempt again tonight.

Oh well, thought as Maxwell were a branded disc they would have been ok.
