help me choose a bike please?

    I'm choosing from the Triban 500 (https://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-500-road-bike-black-id_8331913.html), Claud Butler Elite R2 (http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/road-bikes/claud-butler-elite-r2-gents-700c-14-speed-sti-alloy-road-racing-bike) and the 2016 version (halfords.com/web…lay?catalogId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=165710&productId=1312971&storeId=10001)

    They are £250, £214 and £260 respectively.

Or any recommendations for similar price? Thanks!

I would look at a second hand trek or Felt for that money. I would be very wary of buying a bike from Halfords, they are notorious for doing sub standard work when assembling a bike. If you pop down to your local bike shop (independent) have a bike fit done so you know what size frame you need. It's amazing how many people buy a bike the wrong size for them based on size guides online, there are so many factors to take into consideration when being fitted for a bike. Also get your bum measured for a saddle (seriously it's s real thing). It's the best thing I've ever done for riding as it has alleviated a lot of saddle problems for me.

But out of those three I would go for the triban. It's a nice looking bike and the specs on it are good.

Has to be Decathlon, good reputation, they set the bike up well and good after service.

Your choices are very limited at that budget.

Secondhand is the other option, but its a case of knowing what to look for and not having any expensive repairs.

He's buying a £250 bike. Are you really going to get one sized up for yourself with the right size saddle for that money at your local bike shop? I had a look at my local and they don't have anything for under £250. Agree with going the second hand route as you should get a decent bike for £250.

Calebra crag voted one of the best sub £500 mountain bikes £200 @ go outdoors you have to by a year discount card for £5 but free delivery

Tell us a bit more about your intended use and the amount of miles per per week you are thinking of doing and what height/inside leg measurements you are and I will see if I can point you the right way.

Sorry the calibra crag has gone back up to £299.

I have one of these, it needed building and tweaking to set it up to my preference. Also shifters are ok but not laid out properly as the finger trigger is too close to back out the brake lever, but I'm happy with it and good value for money

Thanks all, I would certainly started browsing ebay and gumtree for a 2nd hand one. But the decathlon bike would probably my first choice if eventually going for a new bike

Decathlon any day! the Triban is amazing for a first road bike!

    don't waste money at halfords...

All I can say is that Decathlon has got an excellent after sales services, had a couple of problem with my Rockrider in the past, and they just fixed it, no question asked. Also, if this is your first bike (you are not saying what exactly you want to do with the bike [weekend riding, commuting etc]), it will always be a good one to keep as a winter bike, a man has never enough bike anyway :p. The well known formula N + 1 does apply in this case perfectly
