Hi , I am not an expert .. I have made a comparative check.. can you please help me to pick the best laptop according to you?
Personally, I am getting motivated for 3) for 8 Gen and Quad core, only drawback is it is not SSD!

1) Acer-i7-7 Gen-Dual-8 GB-1
HDD-15.6-Full HD-499

2) HP-i5-7 Gen-Dual-8 GB-256
SSD-15.6-Full HD-449

3) HP-i5-8 Gen-Quad-4 GB-1
HDD-15.6-Full HD-399

4) HP-i7-7 Gen-Dual-8 GB-256
SSD-15.6-Full HD-466

5) HP-i5-7 Gen-Dual-16 GB-1
HDD-15.6-Full HD-475

apologies for formatting
Thanks in advance

5 if the CPU doesn't have U 4 if it does.
5 CPU is Intel Core i7 7500U Processor

are the U processors not any good at all ?

If number 3 is £399, get that one. Hard drive can be upgraded later on when SSD prices fall and capacities rise. You can't do that with the CPU.
Of the stuff you've listed only memory amount and SSD size would be of any importance to me. I would decide based on screen quality (contrast/colourspace/brightness, not resolution!), build quality, keyboard and touchpad and so on.

If you are doing something that uses lots of CPU power then #3 is the best choice, or maybe #4 if it's not well threaded.
i am going to use it for very light usage.. no gaming , no programming .. general web browsing .. and occasionally remote login to office pc to check email and stuff but thats like once or twice in a year :-)
need more space for kids pics, videos etc only :-)

for 3)
Full HD displayScreen type WLED
Resolution1920 x 1080

Screen features
- SVA anti-glare
- WLED-backlit

Depending on the price differentials between them - as that is a big factor but from what you have here.....MY HUMBLE opinion....

HP-i5-8 Gen-Quad- 4 GB-1 HDD-15.6-Full HD - £399

HP-i7-7 Gen-Dual- 8 GB-256 SSD-15.6-Full HD - £466

Just my own personal experience U represents low voltage so on my tasking situations runs slower. So the slight faster i7 would be better even if a U. You can always add memory so the 16gb is not relivent in the comparison - Better CPU always beat more memory.

In that case the CPU is entirely irrelevant. Ignore the specs, focus on what's important for your use.
Some of the specs / prices don't seem to bad, better than I've been finding anyway. Would you mind saying where each one is from ?
In a laptop there's not much difference between an i5 dual core and an i7 dual core but the difference between 2 and 4 in price is minimal so get 4.

You also sound like a light user so they would all be fine really.

If you need lots of storage space then obviously the two with the SSD are not ideal.
