Help - My projector isnt working properly?

I bought a used Clearco HD projector today. But when I got home and powered it on there was a brownish mark on the display (when it projects on the screen). Its not so bad when there are darker images but on light images (e.g. white) its quite visible.

Does anyone know what this is? I am hoping its just a bulb and not something more terminal.

Obviously I've been ripped off cos it was supposed to be sold as working. However there's not much I can do now about getting a refund (hard to explain) so please don't give me any advice on returning it.

I am just wondering if anyone can diagnose the problem (and provide a solution).

    Many thanks!

Sounds like the lamp on the way out

Does it have a selection in the menu to show the bulbs usage? Is the lens clean?

    Banned

if its not the bulb its likely to be the internal lcd burnt because the filter hasn't been kept clean

theres no details about bulb usage.
    Lens seems clean.

Is there anyway of finding out if the lcd is burnt?

check the filter to start with, i had a similar projector a while ago and i think it needed cleaning every 100 hours

So not even worth sending it to a shop for a repair quote?

2 things it can be, lcd or bulb
bulb can be easily checked by removing and visually checking and i think it can go in 1 of 2 ways so see if the mark moves if replaced the other way round or fit the spare bulb they always come with
If its not the bulb its the lcd

OK I've taken two sets of pictures. The first is in a room with lots of natural light (but I closed the curtain cos I couldn't see much) and the second is in a room with less light.

On one of the images there is a shadow in the top-right corner. Please ignore this as it was the shadow from my arm when I was holding the phone to take a picture.

Still working on the others (of the inside). What do I need to do? Just take of the top casing or simply unscrew the top-rear panel? oO

Loads of possible reasons, makr on the bulb, burnt bulb (dust burnt on glass), or more terminal is a faulty/damaged ccd (or whatever is used in your projector).

At work we used to just bin them when it got like this and buy new ones.

Looking at them its looks very much like lcd burn. However it seems rather bad. Are all fans working oon the projector.. It may only may be a burn mark on the bulb but I can't see it myself. When you open it up make sure you fully check the bulb and lcd. Take pictures of both whilst there on so we cna see if there is any markings

Fans seems ok but how do I know if there is a problem with them?

Ok I took off the top cover but I can see too much. I take it the bulb is the centre component and the LCD is the two lenses at either side of the bulb? The front lense seems to have like a thin black mark (although I could be mistaken). I gave the bulb and front/rear lenses a wipe with a cotton cloth but didnt notice much dust come off.

Doesn't seem any markings on the bulb, you now need to take the entire case off which is around 4 screws and get some pictures of the lcd

I had a look again with the projector switched on. I noticed that the bulb looks like it may have overheated. It has a light grey misting and some bubbling around the centre area.... very strange.

    Original Poster

Do you know if the bulb just pulls out or is it locked in place (like a lightbulb)?

its wierd, you have to push one end in and then it clicks out sorta like a toilet roll holder

    Original Poster

yeah got it out, just uploading photos now.

Cant remember which way it goes back in now!

I can see the misting on the bulb but been honest i dont think that would give the defined black marking on the screen

Did you see the picture of the lens? It has a thin black line down it. Hard to see in the pictures cos the flash makes all kinds of other marks appear (that arent actually there).

That looks like a crack in the lense tbh, so that could cause the black in a way if its distroting the light

So what's the next move? Sell on ebay as spares or repair? Or is a new lense a cheap option?

    Superman999: any update on this?

I've just cracked one of these open with a similar problem.

I would say without much doubt that the internal LCD screen is faulty / burnt out. I was googling for a new screen and stumbled on this.

It's definitely replaceable if only I can find someone who would sell it. Unfortunately I can't find it anywhere. Hmm.

Let me know if you are still struggling. If I find a replacement I'll let you know.
