Help needed!

Hi folks,

Hope you can help me. I want to get an online gadget magazine up and running very soon - something that appeals to the UK consumer, but which is open to everyone to contribute.

I have everything set up and ready to rock - just no content. I wondered whether there was anyone reading this who might be interested in becoming a partner in getting this thing off the ground, contributing, and generally helping out.

Whilst I can't pay anyone, I'm hoping you'll enjoy what you're doing, and get something positive out of it.

PM me if interested.

Thanks!

What exactly do you want someone to do? Webdesign, hosting costs, marketing, reviews? Do you expect to make a profit from this? Will you using adverts? Will user data be collected? If so how will it be stored & used? Do you have any experience in publishing, or contacts within the consumer electronic industry? Presumably you'll need things to review - where from?

Hiya - I've send a PM which should answer parts of your message.

Thanks for that, not sure why you pm'd it though!
Any chance of a URL so I can check out the site a little?

hmm - good point. Sorry!! I really should have just put the message in here..

URL is PM'd to you to take a look at

URL seems to give address not valid? Bit unmemorable as it is anyway I might add.

As I see it there are alot of gadget mags/sites around - whether just for gadgets, or as part of a wider community.

For that reason you'll need: an original memorable name & pursuant domain, good marketing, plenty of bandwidth, innovative reviews, a strong community base, unusual items to review - things to hand are rarely interesting, especially given the existence of other review sites for consumer goods. It's all going to cost money too - a domain might be £3.50/year for a .com but high end serves ain't so cheap.
Using paid links to merchants within review will help support that, but presumably most will use quidco if they have any sense, and if you ever do put banners on you'll kill traffic v quickly. You'll also need a decent legal page for privacy if collecting users data for their accounts, a disclaimer for user review submissions, an enticement to write reviews such as rating system, and possibly giveaways/ prizes?

Hi there,

I'm an IT and Website manager with some spare time on my hands, I'd probably be interested in helping you out. If you can send me more information about the site and what your plans for it are then I'll have a look and get back to you. Would be good to get involved in a new project lol

Chris

Mr Campbell has made a lot of important points. If you elaborate on some of them I don't mind working on a logo for the site. Freebie gadgets to review would be brilliant. I won 'review of the month' on Amazon once for my in depth coverage on a Sony DVD Player I had bought (even though I didn't buy it from Amazon)

I got a fifty pound voucher for my efforts - Did anyone else win an Amazon review prize?
