Help Needed BD/HD-DVD Drive for Laptop

    Hi, I have ordered this laptop from Play.com. Sony Vaio NR10 E/S / Pentium Dual Core T2310 1.46GHz / 2GB / 160GB / 15.4" / DVD-SM / Vista Home Premium / Laptop / Notebook.

I have ordered it from Playtrade for £271.99 which I thought wasn't a bad price. But I would like a better drive on it.

I want to fit a BD/HD-DVD drive to it. Help required as follows

    1)What drive should I buy & (cheapest)
    2) Is it easy to fit?
    3) Is this laptop good enough to run a drive like this?

Many thanks on any help offered
    3) Is it easy to make make it work

Sorry to say, but I would not bother. I believe that laptop has an intel X3100 graphics chip, which is not strong enough to decode the HD video codecs.

    Yeh it is.

    Did you mean "yes" ?

Ok, let me rephrase. There is no hardware acceleration for VC-1 and x264 codecs, so this is decoded by the CPU. I would doubt that the CPU of the Vaio above would be able do decode bluray disks with a 30mbps video bitrate smoothly.

I have a Vaio AR21S which has an Nvidia 7600gt and a 2Ghz cpu, and it drops frames if I turn off GPU hardware acceleration.

The short answer, from my experience I don't think that's the right machine for bluray.

I have a 1.4ghz C2D with the x3100. It plays hddvd's fine. I would imagine its the same for blu rays.

The X3100 was designed by Intel to offload HD from CPU to GPU on the cheap, it is fine with Bluray and HD-DVD..
