Dear Doctor,

I have this re-ocurring problem I suffer each year.

The symptoms are as follows:

July/August.. I am overcome with a huge wave of optimism and excitement, can't wait for kick off on the first game of the season.

August/November... the optimism quickly fades and is replaced by a low of frustration and confusion. The first signs of depression start to show.

November/ January ... Confusion gives way to anger which is quickly followed by a rapid dose of realisation. Unable to eat (especially on Saturday tea times), drinking heavily on Saturday evenings, unable to discuss football with anybody on any level.

January / May ... Despair, depressed resignation, loss of the will for life, lack of ambition and sworn hatred of all things football.

May / July ... quiet rest and peace, a few highs with a couple of new signings, steadily regaining confidence and optimism and by the end of July and the start of August I seem fully recovered and I 100% certain that Leicester City are going to thrash everyone in sight during the coming season.

And then ... it starts again...

It seems I am suffering Leicester-itis. How common is this ? Is there a cure ? Are there any other sufferers ?

Just thank your lucky stars that you don't have Leeds-itis, the symptoms drag on for years!!
